WEST END, Tortola, VI- The third annual District 1 Christmas Fiesta will be held today, Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 1 PM.

The event is being organized by the District 1 Social Action Group, the Cultural Thursdays Committee and the Office of the District Representative, Hon Dr. Karl Dawson.

A press release from the House of Assembly on behalf of Dr Dawson said the Fiesta will feature cultural and seasonal favourite foods and drinks as well as various gift items.

The afternoon to evening event at the Benjamin Romney Park in West End will include children’s games, soldier crab and land turtle races, domino tables and Christmas music.

Christmas treat competition

There will also be competitions for best guava tart, sweet potato pudding and mauby. Winners in each category will win $300.00 in prize money.

Performances by caroling groups from across the district, a special performance by the Heritage Dancers and live music by 4 Strong Fungi Band will also take place later in the day.

Closing the evening will be a car show and car sound system exhibition.

Unity in the community

Dr Dawson has praised the combined efforts of the community as they continue to grow this tradition and expressed satisfaction at the choice of venue this year.

According to the release, he said this was another example of the community coming together.

The District 1 Representative also indicated that this Christmas season, the community has already rallied together to light up the district, placing decorations and lights at various points. The lights on the poles were made possible by donations from various persons across the district.

Karl ah wil you say? Obviously you don’t know what WUK really is. The high schoolers in District 1 could have planned and host the Christmas Fiesta. It’s not rocket science.

Talk about a wast of time. I was there in person and it isn't anything to brag about.

I was there as well and half of the things mentioned didn't even take place. It was poorly attended. The event was to begin at one and didn't start until after 3 or so. I remember visiting these events when I was a younger and always enjoyed them. The people of that district would come out in droves! Take it back to Capoons Bay!

@Granddaughter of a first district resident. The turnout has nothing to do with the location but rather the person hosting the event. Past events hosted in West End had a better turnout and stronger support even when hosted at the West End Park for the district.

@stop you better ask the owner of the laundry mate way he does have a no water sign up often enough. It's because water be off for weeks at a time. You if course don't live carrot bay because you don't even know that. Water has been off like crazy since this man in. I was born and raise Carrot Bay so you need to stop lie. Carrot Bay also goes for two weeks often in different areas in carrot bay. It was just off for three weeks because of a leak and off the month before for almost two weeks and numerous more times.
