PORT PURCELL, Tortola, VI- BVI Tourist Board's Events Manager Mr Dirk L. Walters, who was also the point person for the BVI Festival and Fairs events, resigned from his post in a letter given yesterday, Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

Our News Centre has not yet obtained a copy of the resignation letter; however, we were informed by persons familiar with the situation that it came after much tension between him and the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) Director Clive L. McCoy.

Unconfirmed reports are the Director is already speaking with two persons as possible replacements.

There was also some recent confusion over Mr Walters' employment package as Director of Events. It is alleged he was offered to be a permanent member of staff, but that was reportedly withdrawn for a contract renewal.

It was last year, around March 2023, that Mr Walters was appointed as Events Coordinator, replacing the controversial Rosemary L. Rosan aka 'Cindy', who was fired by the BVITB in December of 2020.

Up to the time of publication, neither Mr Walters nor Mr McCoy had responded to our request for their comment.

If he can't get his way that will be an Issue, Confusion. .That festival line up Whoever put that together knows nothing about Festival or nothing about bands. Its a waste of money line up. You don't need no more than 3 bands and a DJ to entertained while band change over on a week day night..We looking at a 7hrs night from 8pm - 3am. A band need at least hr and half on stage to express themselves musically.. Then 20 - 30 mins switch time . Thats more than 7hrs. Can't rush bands and stage then rush them off..Yet I see some nights have 6-7 bands entertainers all have to be paid. This is waste of tax $$$ no way we can get Value for Money. .Dirk is a musician. This line up cannot be dirk, more like Dirk was telling them that this line up cannot work.

More people need to resign from stressful situations. In this day and time when people are dropping like dead flies, your mental health is more important.
Let them keep their job. Some of these managers are bullies and don't listen. They think they know it all.
Walk away with your peace and dignity.

And for every FIRM no bully manager there are 10 incompetent Indians who don’t want to take orders, who bad talk their managers, who want the job but can’t do it, who are disrespectful and ghetto, who will cut the manager throat at the first possible opportunity. Most of them females and a lot of them short males. Talk THAT

    Hull resigned now Walters.

One staff after the next resigning.

The employees are disgruntled and their voices need to be heard today instead of a set of photo ops.

That’s what happens when the Head is hand-picked and not properly interviewed for a position.

How else do you think most people get their jobs in the BVI?
Most are handpicked by the ministers or department managers. Friends and families are the new degrees and experience needed for positions and promotion. That's the order of the day. Check most ministries. O.C in education has made that her objection.... Promotion for friends and family friends in education. Even if they're not fit for the positions.

I am surprised that this happened this quickly, but not that this happened. Dirk made some questionable moves and statements during his tenure. There is a role for him but this was not it. Hoping everyone can move on amicably.

This is what happens when you deliver accountability in an environment that was allowed to run wild. The whole thing needs closing down and starting again.
