SDA forced the tie by beating Grenada by 7 wickets as the right arm spin of Wynfield Ambrose bagged 5 for 20 from four overs in the last of two games played on Sunday, March 23 at Greenland Grounds.

Grenada won the toss, elected to bat first and stumbled to 3 for 20. It took a 75-run partnership between vice-captain, Dave Johnson and the explosive Rodney Marryshow to repair the inning, but it was not enough as Marryshow was eventually removed by Ambrose for 25 runs and then Johnson was trapped LBW by McAuthur Byfield for 49 runs – a knock that saw 9 fours and 1 six.

The Grenada inning never gained momentum, sputtering to 153 all out from 20 overs as five of the final six batsmen could not record double digit scores. Grenada’s Irvin Lewis, who is known for his bowling exploits, stuck two fours and two sixes for his 24 runs. Byfield finished with 2 for 39 while Rohan Sweeney and Keith Williams claimed 1 wicket each.

SDA started tentatively as they approached the relatively low total by Greenland Ground standards, carefully navigating the fiery spell from Grenada’s speedster, Lewis who removed SDA’s captain Shaun Thompson for six and captured the prized wicket of Colin Ollivierre who crashed 8 fours and one six in his 53-run stay at the wicket.

Ollivierre and Ambrose anchored Grenada’s response with an 86-run partnership for the third wicket, lifting the score from 40 for 3 to 126 after the removal of Rohan Sweeney by Derrol Redhead for 22 runs and the departure of Thompson.

Ambrose was left not out on 53 runs (5 sixes and 2 fours) when SDA cruised to victory, their second of the tournament.

RTW Torches Wolues

The first game on Sunday saw RTW capture their second victory this year by defeating Wolues by eight wickets.  Wolues won the toss and elected to bat. They reaching 182 for 8 wickets propelled by 64 runs from captain and opening batsman, Simon Schilder, who slammed eight fours and two sixes before being bowled.

Jadid Khan continued to show good form and ended with 41 runs, including 5 fours and 1 six. R. Seepersaud, who cracked eight fours and six sixes for 74 runs and Elvis Mangal’s 66 runs steered RTW home within 11 overs.

Based on the net run rate calculation, Grenada’s rate of 3.93 saw them winning the Division II competition and through to the Super Six stage. RTW, who placed second with a rate of 1.75; SDA third with 1.09; and Wolues fourth have been knocked out of this year’s competition.
