EAST END, Tortola, VI – Quality services and community relations have won the hearts of patients visiting the Nurse Iris Penn-Smith Health Clinic in East End resulting in the clinic being recommended for recognition and Christmas blessings from Digicel on December 17, 2013.

The health facility received glucose and blood pressure machines from the mobile communications giant, thanks to a regular client of the health centre.

According to Digicel’s Marketing Public Relations Executive Ms Jasmine Perez, the company felt compelled to donate towards the clinic as one customer told them that she travels from Road Town to East End whenever she has need for clinical medical services.

“She said that the staff there is very hospitable and approachable to the extent that she leaves town and go all the way there for services,” said Ms Perez.

Contacted by Digicel, the clinic provided a list of things in dire need. This included glucose and blood pressure machines, which Digicel donated to the clinic yesterday morning.

“There are two other things that they have very urgent need for at the time and they are a EKG machine and a projector. The EKG machine is very expensive but we will be revisiting their wish list in the New Year to see how best we can assist with that,” added Ms Perez.

“Non-communicable diseases are on the increase and we want to provide effective treatment and care to those persons already living with the condition but more importantly we want to preach the message of prevention,” said Community Zone 1 Manager Ms Carol Jno- Baptiste of the Nurse Iris Penn-Smith Health Clinic.

Not authorized to speak on the prevalence of the conditions, Nurse Jno- Baptiste said they have been very active in executing a number of educational sessions throughout the East End community, including at churches, organizations and groups, hence the need for the projector.

Other nurses on staff were also moved by the gesture of their secret client to the extent that nurse, RN Phillip Jacobus said, “So we are very special, it’s nice to know that someone recognizes us this way…”

The Nurse Iris Penn-Smith Health Clinic is the second health institute to benefit from Digicel BVI for the Christmas season of 2013. On November 8, 2013 the Road Town Clinic was treated to catered lunch and two nurses were the surprise recipients of brand new cell phones.

This Thursday, Digicel will continue its Christmas promotion at their Flagship Store in Road Town. There a lucky customer will win $12,000 to assist in offsetting a major expense such as a mortgage or rent. Other gifts and prizes would also be up for the taking.
