GEORGETOWN, St. Vincent & the Grenadines– Chairman of Digicel Group, Mr Denis O'Brien has called on the United Kingdom (UK) Government to step up and do the right thing for the people of Volcano ravaged St. Vincent and the Grenadines after what he called ‘slap in the face’ ‘pitiful donation’ to the people of the country.

The UK Government has committed just £200,000 through the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) to support the regional response to the ongoing La Soufriere volcanic activity.

Lack of support ‘a slap in the face’ - O'Brien

Commenting on the lack of support, Mr. O'Brien, said, "In a time of dire need, the UK Government's pitiful donation is a slap in the face to the people of St. Vincent & the Grenadines who, as members of the Commonwealth, find themselves in a desperate situation.”

He said the UK Government needs to step up increase substantially its aid and financial assistance as a matter of urgency, “This would be a small measure of the historical debt owed to these communities," O’Brien remarked.

The global Digicel group has so far donated $500k worth of much-needed items to support the urgent relief efforts in the country, with more donations coming from Digicel regional branches.

Digicel in an April 20, 2021, press release said nations like St. Vincent & the Grenadines have historically been slave nations that were exploited by the UK and since its independence in 1979, the country has maintained strong political, legal, administrative, tourist and trade links with the UK.

UK must do more - O'Brien

“As part of the Windrush Generation, who assisted British reconstruction activities after the devastation of World War 2, they [people of St. Vincent] served in many occupations hit by labour shortages - yet their children were subjected to deportation and threats of deportation from the UK despite living and working there for decades because of a lack of official paperwork,” the release noted.

O'Brien noted that the ongoing La Soufriere volcanic activity has caused the mass displacement of over 30,000 people with food insecurity issues and a potential public health emergency.

As such, he called on the UK Government to step up and do more for St. Vincent and the Grenadines given its historical ties to the county.

And how much had Dennis contributed personally?!? Why do U.K. government need to find this, where is the rest of the Caribbean to help out?

The rest of the Caribbean didn’t kidnap the majority of the residents of that nation and bring them to live in slavery and hardship! You are sick and demented just like your forefathers!!! Can nothing good comes of any of you?

And all that is negated the minute they said they are independent. You can’t have it both ways. They said in 1979 they were economically and politically successful enough to go it on their own. They cannot pathetically fall back on slavery crutch at this stage. It’s just like these idiots here in the BVI talking about independence. For what? So 3-4 families to control the island any more than they already do? We done need COI to even scare them, imagine if some of these S@:$$32$7 did not even have that to curb their behavior...

Negated? So I guess you set the rules and penalties of inhumanity? You will learn what it means to be a human one day! The question is, are you going to like the pain of your destiny...for what you measure to others will be measured to you double!

I truly believe that there is a part of you’ll DNA that is not fully developed? Like animals of the wild, many of you seem to believe that you have a say in how humanity lives or die. You feel that you can control humans for your own selfish gain, then justify your evil with sick reasoning that only makes sense to the ‘devils in hell’. Interestingly enough, many of your ancestors have met their ‘Intellectual’ match in hell!

When you become independent then you rely on yourself. Any and all assist is a gift to be appreciated. St Vincent is a member of CARICOM and assistance from that end...about 15 countries is where the expectation and obligation lies.

Most of the first world countries are in their current position from the ravaging and abusing of not so powerful countries. For the most part they owe and never paid them any reparation so they owe them. They terrorize the globe with a might is right philosophy. You can't pry them out of any country that has anything of value pertaining to their own interest. So you claim that independence voids them of any obligation that they have. I'm sure you can come up with some psychopathic reason as to why they are still bleeding some of the smaller under developed countries.

Just in case you didn't know Christianity is a lie . We were colonize and brutally forced to believe in this false truth of a man coming to save the world one day . How much more decades do we have to wait . How much more of our people are going to die thinking they are going somewhere ? Truth is energy dont die and the minute you don't fear death is the greatest achievement of the mind . Death is just a restart . There will always be life . Please people do your research about the "Bible" and you will be shock to know that the white man came and saw the land, told us to kneel and close your eye and gave us the book and after we open our eyes they had the land and we had the book . This God thing is bullshhhh .. There's no one person coming to save the world because if its so what is going to have to "non chosen ones" are they just going to go hell because they weren't colonize like we were ? . COME ON PEOPLE Voodoo is not a demonic thing .In Fact VOODOO and OBEAH is what led HAITI TO INDEPENDENCE and that why the white man demonize it ! They did so because they know the force of voodoo is real the healing of voodoo is real and the energy of voodoo straits back to our ancestors and indigenous tribes before the illusion of jesus . Adam and eve had cane and abel . Cane killed abel . Cane was then punished by God and had to leave the garden and then Cane got kids . I count 4 minus 1 so where and who did cane got children for . I think this is an important aspect that people look over from the book and when you ask a pastor he assumes and give you some bull SH"t story . The bible is full of "ALLEGORIES" . Yes go ahead and research the world . Please my people the only person that can save us is ourselves life is about reproducing and using natural things not closing your eyes and giving the pastor money be GOD send to give 10 percent of your income . COME ON now why are people still buying in to this ? DO you know why the HAITIANS are not scared to die ? ITS because they know and found some Truth about life and the Fact is LIFE WILL NEVER END ! ENERGY WILL JUST BE RECYCLED .. I AM MY ANCESTORS MY ANCESTORS ARE ME !! STOP BELIEVING AND BEING SCARED OF THE FORCE THAT PROTECTS YOU > LIVE LIFE MORE NATURALS !!! .

Agree with most of this. The very idea that a slave can go to hell while a slave master can go to heaven is beyond me. The idea that both a slave master and a slave can be together in heaven is equally absurd.

I believe when we Africans die we rejoin the Ancestors until we come back to a another experience on this world or on another one. I believe this is why the others are trying desperately to reach the stars in mechanical vessels. Not possible. Their destiny is eternal death, endless darkness, the blackest night. And they are terrified.

Boss you can’t reject a country, openly hate them and criticize them. Then when you fall on hard times come with your tail between your leg begging. That is just facts, you all don’t like hearing the hard truth... But the truth is once you go independent they are not obligated to you anymore. You all ain’t got a once of shame that is the problem. You want to talk colonizer this and that but still turning about with your soup bowl out....pathetic........

So because SVG choose to go independent and cast off the shackles of slavery and colonialism they should be punished. Are you saying that every country that chose to come out from oppression and bondage should be punished or is it just St. Vincent. What have you thinking stuff like that. That's a weak ass mind that's self loathing and destructive no wonder Agenda 21 has been designed to rid the world of useless eaters. The UK is feeding, clothing and giving shelter to at least six Vincentians convicted of the most heinous of crimes against their host country and some if its people. At least $ 40 000 per year amounting to,millions. What is needed in the Caribbean is pride, dignity, self love andvdignitu.. These attributes can not be bought or gifted.

Glad you were pregnated with twins. Let me enlighten on one your your many ramblings. Obviously you are not Haitian and they dont want you to represent them. At least not with the garbage you spew. You glorify witchcraft and voodoo. Are you aware that Haiti is 80 percent catholic, 20 percent Christian and 100 percent voodoo. Furthermore are you aware that Haiti is the poorest nation in the world. Ask yourself why, wheel and then come again. The next time you are pregnated with such garbage you should abort. Rather next time reach for a condom.

Denis, the British Virgin Islands that is an OT of the United Kingdom did not get a red cent from the United Kingdom when we were ravaged by Hurricane Irma, them good for nothing force grants down our throats that we have to repay. St Vincent and the Grenadines is an independent nation receiving a donation they don't have to repay, what is your problem boss. You are dissatisfied return it.

Last I checked St. Vincent is an independent country. They decided to come out from under the UK. The UK or any other country isn’t required to help them. These countries and territories like the VI are helping out of the kindness of our hearts and we are struggling ourselves with this current situation.

The UK is one of the founding members of the UN and one of 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council, an industrialized nation with a GDP of approx $3T. Though the UK does not have a legal obligation to contribute to the unfortunate plight and demise of SVG and its people, it has a moral obligation to help SVG a former colony and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Indeed, £200,000 is insulting. This is a donation that developed countries would strain to contribute. SVG is a former slave colony. And it is inarguably that slave labour built the UK economy, fueled the Industrial Revolution, energized White privilege, providing preferences, and inequitable and unearned benefits and privilege in health, education, housing, employment/jobs, nutrition, inheritance opportunities, procuring property and other assets, .......etc. Moreover, another blogger noted that SVG people were part of the Windrush generation that answered the call to help reconstruct the UK after WWII. Resources and effort depleted, SVG like others cast adrift.
