Digicel bats for BVI Cricket Association T20 tournament!
In a brief ceremony held earlier today, April 30, 2013, CEO of Digicel BVI Declan Cassidy, handed over an undisclosed amount of money to President of the BVICA, Shan Mohamed.
The tournament is scheduled to be held at the Greenland Recreation Ground.
"We want to make sure that we improve on what was started in 2008 and the BVICA has chosen to partner again with Digicel. We believe that Digicel is the right fit for cricket in the Virgin Islands," Mohamed stated.
He also noted Digicel's involvement with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and their recent sponsorship of the CTL tournament in the Caribbean.
Mohamed stated that the BVICA's objective is to save what he termed "a truly indigenous" Caribbean sport and thanked the CEO for partnering with the BVICA.
Meanwhile, Cassidy said that Digicel was extremely excited about the venture and agreed that it was a good fit for the company.
According to Mohamed, nine teams are expected to participate in this year's tournament with two initial rounds being held before round robin games that will lead to the finals.
The first game bowls off on May 5, 2013 and two games are expected to be played on each Sunday at Greenland.
The tournament will wrap up in the third week of July.
