Despite slap from House of Commons, VI will celebrate Queen's Birthday!
This is a move that will destroy the Territory’s economy, if enacted, and will leave thousands jobless, homeless and in poverty.
The British crown dependencies of Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man are not required to comply. Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL) has described this move as “unjustified and discriminatory."
He said the vote on May 1, 2018, in the House of Commons in the amendment to the Bill is “a fundamental breach in the constitutional relationship and modern partnership between the United Kingdom and the VI."
Celebrate those who are about to kill us?
Despite this move, where the Territory has to spend millions more on lobbying efforts, the VI is gearing up to celebrate the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II come Saturday, June 9, 2018.
All costs are shouldered by the local government, according to a Deputy Governor’s Office senior officer. However, Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr., speaking to our newsroom, disputed that. He claimed that it is “cost sharing, where the Governor’s Office itself pays for the reception and local government pays for the activities surrounding the parade.” However, Mr Archer Jr did not clarify if it was still local Governor’s Office budget funding.
The Queen is expected to sign the bill that will destroy the VI economy and way of life.
According to a government spokeswoman, Colene A. Penn, “The parade begins at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park and concludes on the vacant lot behind the Central Administration Complex on Wickham’s Cay II. Participants will include uniformed bodies, youth organisations, schools and service clubs.”
Noel Lloyd turning over in grave?
A Janet C. Williams, who often comment to our newsroom said, “What an insult to Noel Lloyd that they are taking this through his park in light of what is going on…we are now celebrating the people that is about to destroy our economy and violate our human rights.”
At the June 9, 2018 Queen's Birthday Parade, the United Kingdom appointed Governor, Augustus J. U. Jaspert will inspect all units of the parade, following which there will be a march-past, the hoisting of the Governor’s Standard and the Royal Salute given in honour of Her Majesty, according to a Government Information Service (GIS) press release.
Following the Bill's passage on May 1, 2018, many in the local political class have called for independence from Great Britain.
