NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI- Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour, and Trade, Honourable Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL), recently presented fifteen laptop computers to the principal, Ms Akima Powell, of Robinson O'Neal Memorial Primary School (ROMPS) for its graduating class of 2024.

These laptops, generously donated by David and Pamela Johnson of Oil Nut Bay (ONB) through the North Sound Foundation (NSF), symbolise a significant contribution to the educational journey of these students.

Oil Nut Bay (ONB) has maintained a steadfast commitment to Robinson O'Neal Memorial Primary School (ROMPS) for over a decade, starting with the rebuilding efforts led by the North Sound Foundation (NSF) after the school suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Irma in 2017. The ongoing support from NSF continues to enhance the school's resources and facilities, ensuring a conducive learning environment for the students.

According to the Government Information Service (GIS), the laptops provided will play a crucial role in the students' educational development as they prepare to transition to high school. "These devices will empower them with enhanced capabilities for studying and conducting research, thereby enriching their academic experiences and preparing them for future challenges," GIS stated.

Students to receive laptops on July 4

Ms Powell graciously accepted the laptops on behalf of the school community and assured Hon Lorna Smith that the laptops would be presented to the graduating students at their upcoming Exit Dinner on July 4, 2024, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey.

Honourable Smith, known for her passionate advocacy for children and youth, particularly emphasised the importance of digital access in today's educational landscape. As the Minister responsible for digital transformation, she highlighted the necessity for every household and child in the Virgin Islands to have access to computers and internet connection.

She stated that such access is no longer a luxury but a fundamental requirement for effective learning and participation in a digitally connected world.

Hon Smith extended heartfelt congratulations to the Robinson O'Neal Memorial Primary School Class of 2024. She expressed her best wishes for their continued success as they embark on the next chapter of their educational journey, confident that these laptops will serve as invaluable tools in their pursuit of knowledge and personal growth.

Yes, it is great, but the government didn’t donate them. Why was she the one to present them. They don’t want to do much for the sister islands, but want to be up front posing. Smh…..

Problems in the United Kingdom. Read the article: Human Rights Watch. World Report 2023: United Kingdom. The Monarchy of The United Kingdom. British Sovereignty. There are problems in the United Kingdom and in The British Virgin Islands. Both sides need to work together for the betterment of everyone involved. I loss all of my belongings at The Orlando Motel in Orlando Florida and at an apartment building in Lakeland Florida and at an apartment building at Bushwick Avenue in Brooklyn New York and at 18 North Terry Avenue Orlando Florida. I loss $12,000 in college tuition at Valencia College in Orlando Florida and I loss $15,000 at Seminole State College in Sanford Florida. I have been sleeping inside of homeless shelters and outside on the sidewalk and the streets here in the USA for 22 years. I have been homeless and jobless and penniless for 22 years. I have been poor and needy and downtrodden for 22 years and I have lived in poverty and below poverty for 22 years.

Child we came into this world with two empty hands and when we are leaving , we will leave with two empty hands , that in not saying that we are not sympathetic with you , we all still have to give God thanks for life / some people have it worse than us / some didn't even wake up this morning . Bad things happens to good people not just the bad ones , those are just some of the facts of life we all have to live with ????
