Demonic game ‘Charlie’ a concern for ESHS principal & staff
This concern was brought to the attention of this news site firstly via a correspondence purportedly sent to parents by the Acting Principal of the school Ms Sandy M. Underhill alluding to the situation.
According to the letter dated May 28, 2015, “…during the course of the past two days, I have been made aware that students of the ESHS have been engaging in some unusual activities. After investigation of the same, I learnt that they have been performing some Mexician ritual involving a demon called ‘CHARLIE’.”
The letter further stated that the Acting Principal did her homework and after discovering the root of the practice, summoned a meeting with the students on May 27 and warned them of the dangers there of and not to be led astray by the social media practice.
‘It’s a Cult’
This news site subsequently spoke with several parents who expressed serious concerns about the issue and, according to one, “It is a cult and its fast flying not only in Elmore Stoutt High but it is very prevalent in the Technical School in Baughers Bay.” The parent said she has children at both institutions who told her about the practice sometime in April, 2015.
“To the fact that the children are getting together in groups, organised groups with this so called Charlie Charlie game, it’s a cult and it’s sad to say there are big ones encouraging it.”
Another parent said she unearthed the game via social media when she secretly went through her son’s ipad, something she does regularly unknowing to him in order to have an idea of what he is doing.
“Some people may not agree but this is my child and its one of several ways I keep abreast of what he is doing and this one struck me with a knife. When I checked his book bag he had the paper sketches and a notebook with certain people’s names and request he has to make to ‘Charlie Charlie’ on their behalf.”
Prayer warriors summoned to action
One of the other interventions Ms Underhill has allegedly taken to task, according to the letter, was to summon some of the territory’s prayer warriors.
“We also contacted some of the prayer warriors in the community who explained the implications of engaging in such activity and prayed for the school,” the letter stated. Teachers were also admonished to be vigilant and observe students.
This news site contacted parents of several other schools, including St Georges Secondary and Cedar International School, who all said they were not aware of any of their children getting involved in the ‘cult practice’ or the challenge that is popular on social media.
‘Charlie Charlie challenge’
Research has shown that this is a swiftly growing practice not only in the Virgin Islands but is widespread throughout the Caribbean and other countries.
According to one internet site, the latest Twitter/Facebook trend has participants summoning a demon called Charlie via the Charlie Charlie Challenge game. It’s already reached millions (more than 2 million in 48 hours) and going by the numerous viral feeds, YouTube clips, and Vine posts. It said its main participants are children and teenagers.
The origin of this so-called game is unclear, though it has all the trappings of an expertly executed marketing campaign that encourages persons to try the game even if they are skeptical of the paranormal.
Harmless fun?
It’s “hilarious,” some say, “freaky fun.” There are appeals to curiosity: “Have you tried it yet? Do you think it's real?” Other posts hype the sensationalistic with reports of strange and terrifying phenomena occurring when playing the challenge: from rattling doorknobs to scratching noises to hearing whispers in other rooms when no one was supposed to be there to seeing bizarre shadows and figures. It certainly has the trimmings of a horror flick.
The craze has spread itself across a broad spectrum of online social media, utilising the unique strengths of the various social media platforms to reach the masses in diverse ways. Many are filming their experiences trying the ‘Charlie Charlie Challenge’, and posting to social media. Even the choice of words to get others to “play” the “game” is insidious: it’s a “challenge” and “harmless fun”.
Easy to play!
To top it all off, the materials needed to allegedly summon the demon are easily available to school children. All that is needed is a piece of paper and two pencils. Players draw a cross on a piece of paper and label two yes’s and two no’s in the four quadrants formed. Then, placing the pencils in the form of a cross over the penciled cross, players repeatedly chant: “Charlie, Charlie are you here?” or “Charlie, Charlie, can we play?” – the various posts can’t seem to agree which comes first.
If the top pencil swings to the “Yes,” players can start asking Charlie yes/no questions and the pencils supposedly move in response. All this is done to allegedly conjure a Mexican demon called Charlie or a ghost of the victim of child abuse (again, the various posts don’t seem to agree). When players want to stop, they are advised to go through the ritual of chanting “Charlie, Charlie, can we stop?” then wait for the answer of “yes” before dropping the pencils to the floor to break contact with the demon.

No time for supernatural nonsense in 2015
You expect people to take you seriously why?
Luke 17:24-27New English Translation (NET Bible)
24 For just like the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day. 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. 26 Just as it was in the days of Noah, so too it will be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 People were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage—right up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.
Again moving from logic, we might say that it is impossible for this game to summon demons. However, if we now believe that there is a God (Jesus) and that His word is true (faith), we will see that He said, that there are fallen angels, known to us as demons.
It is easy and safe to believe in only what our five senses tell us. It's just a silly game, we can't see anyone, but I'm telling/warning you that there is only one God who is the God of the bible. And since there is the God of the bible, there are demons, whom I believe are willing and ready to move their way into our life the second they are given the chance, in this case via a game.
But it all boils down to your choice of believing, that's where faith comes in. I'll also suggest reading the bible with an open mind.
Really n****h?
Christians…Pray for the Youths! Last year I had a dream were the Lord took me to the foundation of the earth and showed me seasons of demonic attacks towards the youth of the world. In my dream, I had a great desire to pray for the children to know Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. As I prayed the demons fled. Those that truly have a relationship with Christ Jesus, and are not sitting in church for tradition, worldly causes, power, prestige, pride, and ambition but who truly are people of God know what needs to be done and if you don’t, talk to God and He will tell you. I know I am to pray for the children of the world salvation and protection from demonic forces. If you wish to know more I will give you an email address of contact.
It Is only rivalled by the sheer stupidity of the People who believe this Charlie rubbish...
A Mexican called Charlie. ????? Are you serious?

There is only one thing more ridiculous than an imaginary friend and that is an imaginary enemy.
