POCKWOOD POND, Tortola, VI- Delta Petroleum (Caribbean) Limited, already known for its unmatched staff/management relationship, not surprisingly celebrated Thanksgiving with staff at its Pockwood Pond Office today November 22, 2012.

The company said it saw it necessary to observe Thanksgiving since it is a multi-cultural company and also that it was a perfect opportunity for the company to express its appreciation to staff.

“It’s a time when we all can stop and give thanks...This year we want to give thanks to almighty God for the Delta team and for health and strength and for keeping us going during these challenging periods,” said Regional General Manager Bevis Sylvester.

He said the gathering heard staff members indicating what they were giving God thanks for.

One of the main events was of course the lunch, which included the traditional turkey.

“We are happy that we took time out to talk to our staff on this day called Thanksgiving Day. We have some of our most senior staff here with us as well and it is sessions like these that we learn a lot from our staff. In these trying times you have to lead from bottom up, leaders have to speak less and listen more and we at Delta are adopting that.”

Mr Sylvester also extended Happy Thanksgiving to all Delta Customers and even though he did not go in to details said he was hoping to do something very special for them this Christmas.

“When Santa Claus comes he comes so stay close to ZBVI and VINO and hang up your stockings,” Mr Sylvester said.

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. It is celebrated each year on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States and on the second Monday of October in Canada. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations.

Understand being thankful for many things but don't understand celebrating a tradition that as nothing to do with VI.

Couldnt agree more, Canadian Thanksgiving was back in October, why was nothing done then? why choose an American holiday? I love the fact you want to recognise your staff but pick another day, we are not American.

I'm here pondering the same thing. Spend American money, Follow American Holiday, adapt American culture yet when DEA and all those other agencies intervene you want them to mind they business.

Sometimes I really have to wonder if the BVI really is the US Virgin Islands? Or are we confused by the fact that we use the American dollar why we are so caught up with this American Holiday??? I can understand highlighting the day for visiting tourists at Restaurants etc. But some employees harass their bosses like Thanksgiving is supposed to also be a holiday in the British VI.....

"Guest", yuh jus jealous. SO many Virgin Islanders(British) have lived and worked in the US Virgin Islands and many if not most have lots of family over here.

Sooooooo, if they choose to celebrate an American holiday like their families, what's the issue?

FYI I am US so I have nothing to be jealous of. The fact that they live HERE and not in THE US and are not US but are BRITISH as you highlight begs the question why are they celebrating a AMERICAN HOLIDAY, because it is an AMERICAN day. You don't see America celebrating AUGUST MONDAY do you?? Doing it for the tourist is one thing, but some people here act like it is a MANDATORY BVI holiday that must be acknowledged, that makes no sense.

American RELAX! What is your issue. We dont take a holiday like you. We just eat the damn lunch to show unity with you. Jesus get the thumb out of your A#@ and just go have a cup of coffee. If you want facts, the Pilgrims or Quakers were here first before they got to what is now America. They were Europeans. They saw the indians there first and they massacred them for their property after the indians tried to help them survive. They gaved thanks for surviving a brutal winter.

So American relax and enjoy. Do you want some stuffing and a Drumstick?

I'm an employee at Delta and Bevis needed to celebrate with the public to show solidarity with them and not only with the staff. After signing that big contract putting Sol and Debbie to bite their fingers, it's the least we could have done.

In his election campaign he said that the BVI doesn't need white peoples money - but i guess he still wants white people traditions. Dont worry Bevis a lot of us still fill up down the road where there is no racial issue.

I am so proud of Bevis & Delta. Bevis is a forward thinking youngman. We as a country should be glad that a son of our soil is doing this & is also the Regional General Manager for the entire Caribean for a multimillion dollar oil company. We need to learn to celebrate these kinds of accomplishments rather than continue some of our bad minded ways.
