ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Bouncing back from defeat to the Vincy C.C. in the opening round, Lucas United got their season back on track with an emphatic 39 run victory over Carime C.C. on Sunday April 1, 2012 in the BVICA Tape Ball Tournament.

The venue changed to the Cruise Ship Dock and so did the fortunes of Lucas United C.C. , although they were still reliant on the early season form of Otis Chin who stroked a steady 49 before being bowled trying to boost the final score.

The match had been reduced to just 12 overs a side due to the late arrival of several Carime players, but Chin received support from the more forceful Uroy Willory who hit an unbeaten 41, as they posted 156-3 having been asked to bat first.

Keelan Robin, 1 for 28 off 2 overs, Jack Durand 1 for 33 off 3 overs and Turby Xavier 1 for 35 off 3 overs, were the wicket takers for Carime.

In reply, Carime C.C. were bowled out for 117 in 11.3 overs despite the efforts of Robin who scored an even 50. Durand contributed 20 as the Carime briefly flirted with a successful run chase, but then came Michael Deane.

His first over of medium pace went for just three runs and his second over completely tore the heart out of the Carime batting as he picked up 3 wickets to finish with 2 overs, 3 wickets and conceded just 8 runs.

Such had the victory target grown to improbable proportions that Keeble MacDonald came on, bowled several wides, but to the joy of his team mates and the large crowd also picked up a wicket to finish the innings.

In the day’s second game, the Cavaliers C.C. faced the Vikings C.C., who were without their centurion from the first game against the Wolues C.C., Kevin Walker.

New Cavaliers skipper, Teddy Nankisore won the toss and decided to bat first. Nankisore was soon playing a captain’s innings of 47 to guide his team to 128 -7 from their 15 overs. Aaron Baker contributed 32 and Jagnarine Persaud 23.

“It was about 20 runs short of what we wanted,” commented Nankisore.

Richard Fredericks picked up 3 for 16 for the Vikings.

In reply, Nankisore’s faith in his bowlers ability to defend the below par total was soon vindicated as the Vikings lost 4 wickets.

“When we got the first four I knew it was going to be tough on them and we came out victorious,” he said.

Even, the Vikings kept themselves in the hunt right up until the last over, but fell 14 runs short on 114. Rafeek Hack’s 23 was the top score followed by Anil Mohabir’s 17.

Persaud picked up 3 for 22 from his 3 overs and Vishal Bharat 2 for 21 off 3 overs.

Week 3 matches will be played again on the Cruise Ship Dock and feature the Police vs. Vikings C.C. and the NTCOG vs. Vincy C.C. Action starts at noon.
