David double leads Ballstars to opening day victory!

David, playing down the Ballstars right wing, opened the scoring inside 4 minutes when she latched on to a half clearance by Murcella Gordon on the edge of the No Fear area and fired home an unstoppable half volley.
The Ballstars doubled their lead on 12 minutes when Jehnene Joseph battled her way past two tackles down the left hand side and found Dariana Glasco. She took a touch and then thumped home past Katherine Smith in the No Fear goal.
The move of the match resulted in the Ballstars third on 20 minutes.
Kia Foreman had made a long determined run deep into No Fear territory before the ball was seemingly heading away from danger down the right. David though had other ideas and chased it down, held off the attention of defender Kelaine Smith and crossed an inch perfect ball right into the path of Joseph who lashed the ball home from close range.
Ebony Fahie was a constant danger to the Ballstars, but it was her sister, Makeda, who got No Fear back into the game with a well placed drive from 18 yards that beat the unsighted Nina Forte and nestled into the bottom corner. However, it was pretty much the only chance that No Fear could muster as Laura Pompey and Abigail Joseph were in imperious form at the back and the score would remain 3-1 at the break.
The second half began with No Fear pushing forward through Smith, Ebony and Sally St Catherine, but Joseph remained resolute including one drag back, spin and pass despite being under pressure from Smith.
Despite a few nervous moments the Ballstars finally increased their lead to 4-1 when David hit a firecracker of a goal from the edge of the box following a Gordon free kick and then as the clock dwindled down Laresha Martin was brought down in the box.
She picked herself up and successfully took the penalty kick herself to round out the scoring at 5-1.
Earlier, the season had opened with a march pass of the teams and some words of encouragement from Mrs Sheeren Flax Charles. “We want to see fair play and see the young ladies respect each other. It’s a team effort; the Football Association cannot get Ladies football to where it needs to be in the Virgin Islands alone. We might only have four teams for now, but by next season we are looking at six or seven!”
Paul Hewlett, Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, speaking on behalf of the Minister Responsible for Sports, Myron V. Walwyn, commented that “It’s a privilege to be here to see the ladies play and it’s something the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports has always wanted to see more of. Let’s have disciplined play and may the best team win!”
