D1 residents plan protest outside HoA today over open burning @ Pockwood Pond
The recalled Fifth Sitting of the Fifth Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) is scheduled for 10:00 AM, and aims to validate the grant of Residence and Belonger Certificates of some Six-hundred and eighty-eight (688) persons.
According to reports reaching our newsroom, the First District residents are also seeking to sign a petition to pressure Government to urgently address the issue at the Pockwood Pond incinerator.
A fire at the incinerator in February 2021, rendered the facility inoperable since, and open burning is now frequent.
Residents of the First District are said to be the most affected by the smoke and dust. Many are concerned that their health is being impacted negatively.
A large landfill fire was seen last night and continues to burn today, sending plumes of smoke in the direction of West End, Romney Park and even Carrot Bay.
General Election is Monday, April 24, 2023; however, the frustrated residents of the First District are not waiting another day to collectively let their voices be heard on the urgent issue of the frequent landfill fires at Pockwood Pond.
More details to follow.

People will protest, politicians will make their usual promises, and some who make these promises will be fortunate to get elected. The noise will cool down and it WILL BE business as usual. I can put my neck on a chopping block for this one.
They just need to move that mess out of WEST END.
While I agree with part of your argument, that the incinerator was purchased without the scrubber, the current party, promised they would purchase and have it installed on numerous occasions, don't tell me that they did not have the funds, there was millions apon millions that was given away to friends & family. So they need to Standup like big men/women, and shoulder the blame. I was taught to under promise and over deliver they did the opposite.
