Cyclists face East End Torture this weekend

The start and finish will be at Trellis Bay at 7.00am, registration at 6.45am. This race is for adults and juniors only, meaning there will be no cadets’ race.
Racers head down the airport road turn right after Beef Island Bridge and head up the 'prison climb'. Following the ridge past Lambert Bay, racers continue to the Josiah’s Bay turn off and turn left down to the East End Police station. At the junction by the Police station, racers turn left back towards airport. At Beef Island Bridge racers turn left, repeat prison climb loop and then finish back at Trellis Bay via the airport access road.
JEEP BVI Mountain Bike Series 2014 Championship Standings
After the grueling Tour de Tortola, Philippe Leroy is on the top of the leader board with 90 points. Jim Cullimore is second with 80 points. Carolina Pettigrew is third with 71 points but Alastair Abrehart, Rusty Burns and Dave Pettigrew are nipping at her heels, mere points behind.
Including the East End Torture, there are still six races to go and plenty of points up for grabs. Competing and completing are the keys to racking up the valuable points.
Eighteen intrepid riders set out on the 37-mile JEEP Tour de Tortola last Sunday. Sixteen successfully completed the arduous race which saw them circumnavigate Tortola anti-clockwise starting and finishing at Beef Island.
Philippe Leroy easily won the race in two hours and 22 minutes. He managed to maintain a blistering pace despite riding solo for the entire race and no real challengers to spur him on for the 2014 title; 2013 winner Orano Andrews did not compete this year but retains the record of 2 hours and 14 minutes.
Tim Clipstone (2:56) came in 34 minutes after Philippe for second place. Mountain bike newbie Rowena Lawrence shocked the field by taking third place overall with a time of 3 hours and 12 minutes, beating seasoned ladies Sally Blackmore and Carolina Pettigrew by a slim three minutes.
