Curacao posted the largest year-over-year increase in cruise passenger visits of any country in the Caribbean last year, according to data from the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

The Dutch Caribbean island welcomed 610,186 cruise passengers in 2013, a 41.4 percent increase over the previous year.

That was significantly higher than the next-fastest-growing destination, Aruba, which posted a 25.4 percent increase compared to 2012.

Not all Caribbean destinations had complete data for 2013, although it’s likely that none of the countries without complete 2013 reporting would have come close to Curacao.

The island’s growth came in a mixed year for cruise tourism in the region, one which saw 10 destinations report negative growth in cruise arrivals.

Overall, the Caribbean saw a 2.7 percent increase in cruise arrivals last year, with around 21.9 million in total, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

The region remained the world’s leading cruise destination, however, according to Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).

If the BVI had more things for tourists to come too, we would double our cruise passengers and I know what I am talking about. When I cruise around from place to place there are casinos, zip lines, welcoming music and dancing w/the tourists at the port of entry, hair braiding and tourist like to get a few braids, pool table competitions, card games, foot racing and potato sack racing, greased pig catching and the list goes on. We could have all those things but our Officials keep thinking all we need is sun, sand and sea. This is why the other islands who have the same sun,sea and sand are booming and all the BVI is doing is praying. Ostriches w/their heads in the ground. Even so called Christian places know to separate church from government finances so they can prosper. FYI "No tourist wants to spend their vacation in church" GET IT!

And for every tourist who wants to buy t-shirts on the beach and get their hair braided, there are equally as many if not more that just want to experience eco-tourism, culture, and environment they don't get on the ship or back in NY. Casinos do not attract the type of people who would appreciate BVI, so we should build them so they might come? nonsense. I bet we have more sail charters than many of those islands and private villa rentals. Zip lines down to CGB is not the answer when it is a potential hazard in location. And why would ANYONE visit a beach where they can't walk because of beach chairs and thousands of people? showcase history, take small boats around to see mangroves and the island from the close water, to secluded beaches, have more food vendor stalls with authentic patties, tarts and pon etc. give visitors a taste of authentic-- not manufactured entertainment. We will probably get that from Disney connection with the Pier Park anyway.

You are so out left field. All that you mentioned can be found in other islands. What do we have that they don't? What can we create that they can't? get it? That the way to go.
