According to Chairman of the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta Committee Jabari J. Stoutt, today’s events promise cultural games, the highly anticipated donkey race, lime and spoon, tug-o-war between single men and married men and a mango-eating competition.

The donkey race will have a surprise element as usual. Stoutt said. “Last year we had two female caucasian riders, this year we’ll just have to wait and see what’s in for the surprise”.

“We’re doing it a little bit different,” Stoutt said encouraging locals and visitors alike to come on down to Carrot Bay where the people of the First District are ready with a warm welcome.

Now this looks more like a festival. Compared to what i see in town and east end

no half naked women and dancing erotic

no under age young girls dressed skimpy

no body wearing ski mask and robber/gunman mask hiding them face

this looks more traditional and respectful prefer the youths get into this rather than what is displayed in town and east

The Carrot Bay culturama should be the prototype, the base from which the VI should celebrate the emancipation of its forebears from physical slavery( we are still mentally enslaved; the Willie Lynch divide and rule mentality ) and promoting of our heritage, history and culture..The current emancipation festival bears little relevance to what it is supposed to be celebrating; it is highly commercialized and is focused on entertainment. We embrace other cultures and seem ashamed of our own. Other cultures should over time be integrated into our own, not replace ours. Marcus Garvey: “ A people without knowledge of their history is like a tree without roots.” Similarly, a people ashamed of their culture, history, heritage is also like a tree without root. We must claim what is ours before trying to embrace others. It is our baby. Regardless of ugly our chiren are they are ours , for nobody rose is going to claim them.Everybody’s monkey is their idol. Be proud 9f what is yours, what you have…….etc. There are 120+ different nationalities in the BVI they all embrace the culture of their homelands, though they may thousands of miles away.

To Stealth, got your point. But Carrot Bay has a different vibe. VG has a different vibe. Town has a different vibe. East End and Long Look should have a different vibe, being first in freedom with the area with the largest population..The East falling behind. But should be in the lead, having had two national leaders out of seven . Ah a carpenter has the worst looking house,,as a mechanic have the worst looking and operating car.

@Disinterested and Stralth , real talk. What is needed is strong and effective leadership and management, the same coin with two different sides, different halves. Hears a news flash. You cannot be strong leader without being a skilled manager and vice versa. Management is easier following establish procedures; while leadership is about social behavior, a non quantitative metric but we can see , feel it, live it, etc. BVI public leadership has been watered down, ie, little mixture of the seasoned and new, people leaping from the bottom to the top with little experience, coming to the table with a near empty reservoir of experience to draw from , lacking the humility and civility to learn from trusted seasoned warriors.

Town always a bit different than country. Different does not equal better. The fact that you can see troupes, go crazy dancing another day in a costume and be puritanical Christian at the next event all of it makes festival special because there is a day & event for everyone.

This is the most cultural place in the BVI trust me on that. It's a whole different vibe over there.
