Cultural Icon Eileene L. Parsons turns 90; Hon Fraser is 70 today!
Cultural icon and former legislator Ms Eileene L. Parsons, OBE, ‘aka Ms P’, who was born on July 5, 1930, has turned 90 today.
Today is also the birthday of veteran legislator and Third District Representative, Hon Julian Fraser, RA, who has turned 70.
Both birthday celebrants have been receiving well wishes from members of the public as well as serving legislators.
A true cultural icon
At Large Representative in the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government, Hon Shereen D. Flax-Charles said Ms Parsons is a woman who can only truly be described as an icon.
“This word is used so loosely nowadays that we sometimes forget its true nature. But there are living legacies like Ms P, as she is affectionately known whose lives of tireless service are memorialised by the standing hallmarks of their careers.”
Hon Flax-Charles said, of Ms Parsons many achievements, she is most grateful for her pivotal roles in the founding of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) and the Emancipation Festival activities.
“We owe our culture and education to her tenacity and drive to see the cause through! Today she is a font of knowledge and heritage that should be honoured eternally!
“Happy birthday Ms. P, we hope to be half the hero you are! May young girls across this Territory find inspiration in your light!” Hon Flax-Charles said on Facebook.
Greetings also came from Second District Representative and Opposition Member, Hon Melvin M. Turnbull, who said Ms Parsons is a woman of knowledge and strength whose wisdom, courage and encouragement “I have leaned on after making the decision to get into the political arena.
“Thank you Ms. P for all that you have done for this Territory that we call home and I Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for me. I love you,” Hon Turnbull said.
Hon Fraser is flooded with well wishes
Meanwhile, More than 360 persons have sent greetings to Hon Fraser on his Facebook page, including legislators.
Hon Fraser, who was first elected in 1999, was born on July 5, 1950.
Many had also used the opportunity to show their appreciation for the veteran legislator and for his work as an elected representative.
Hon Fraser, on his Facebook page, said he is thankful to his wife Kharid, his family and friends, his constituents “and most importantly I thank God for being able to say today is my birthday.”
