COVID-19 tests no longer required for entry to VI from July 15, 2022

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Effective Friday, July 15, 2022, persons visiting the Virgin Islands will no longer be required to present a negative COVID-19 test to gain entry.

The Cabinet of the Virgin Islands passed an amendment to the COVID-19 Control and Suppression (Entry of Persons) Regulation on July 13, 2022, that revokes COVID-19 testing requirements.

Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8), according to a press release from Government Information Services (GIS) on July 14, 2022, said that further relaxation of the COVID-19 Suppression measures is based on the reduced impact of the disease and the move from pandemic to endemic.

'Virus having minimal impact'- Hon Penn

Honourable Penn said, “Currently the statistics are revealing that the virus is having a very minimal impact on those affected and the mortality rates have decreased significantly. That is why we feel at this stage we can re-open the borders and return to pre-COVID normal with regards to travel to the Territory.”

The Minister for Health is further urging persons to remain vigilant and continue to practice good hand hygiene and wear a mask when in questionable environments to reduce the risk of exposure.

    I know it says people entering don't need testing, but is a test required for us leaving to enter St. Thomas or continental US? This is important to know so we don't get stuck at their border from entering.

      The CDC order requiring persons to show a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before boarding a flight to the United States, is rescinded, effective on June 12, 2022, at 12:01AM ET. This means that starting at 12:01AM ET on June 12, 2022, air passengers will not need to get tested and show a negative COVID-19 test result, nor show documentation of recovery from COVID-19, prior to boarding a flight to the United States, regardless of vaccination status or citizenship. Of note, CDC’s Order requiring proof of vaccination for noncitizen nonimmigrants to travel to the United States is still in effect.     July 13 the BVI acting Health Dr. Ronald E. Georges report that the covid 19 virus Amicron strain BA.2, BA.4, and even BA. 5 is active. If what I read is true,is it wise that on July 15 no covid 19 test is required to enter the BVI. Both of these reports seam contradictory to me. I have no medical qualification.
    Please, help to us the unqualified public if we need to be concerned about the contridiction of these two reports. Persons of medical science knowledge need only respond. We need clarity as to which of the two is in our best interest at this time. Help.

    All over the world medical science knowledge, and medical skills coupled with wisdom have greatly helped humans, and animals to enjoyed a greater measure of life, including life extension.
    My personal concern is that none of our past two political Health Ministers nor does the present one has any medical science knowledge.
    I read that July 15 the no covid 19 virus certified proof would be required to enter the BVI. This is a great concern to me, and it should be for us all, base on our acting Health Minister Dr. Ronald Georges last reported on the covid 19 virus transmitted deceased issue..

Welcome to full blown CAPITALISM! Watch covid numbers go up after this. My cousin died of diabete gangreen foot amputation and they lied and said it was covid. I don't trust them anymore.     There are new variants out there that are not responsive to vaccines are are a bit more contagious...but yet to make money we are lifting entry restrictions..I hope and pray that after Festival..our families are safe ..and we dont have another upsurge..Folks lets be vigilant it was around this time last year we had an upsurge and over 50 deaths due to this pandemic..Please be responsible and protect yourselves and your families????????
