ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Governor of the Virgin Islands H.E. Augustus J. U. Jaspert says while he is encouraged to learn that the Government’s strategy for containing COVID-19 in this Territory appears to be working, all is not over as yet.

On Monday, April 6, 2020, Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) announced that 17 new samples sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in Trinidad for testing came back negative.

Gov'ts strategy working- Gov Jaspert

Hon Malone said the VI’s overall number of cases remains low, with 3 confirmed via importation and no evidence of community spread.

He also said Government will expand surveillance and testing, provide support to all persons in quarantine and strictly monitor for development of signs and symptoms of COVID-19 disease.

According to Governor Jaspert, "This is excellent news and a relief for us all, particularly those who have been awaiting results and their family and friends... I am also encouraged by this news because it means that our Government’s strategy for containing the virus here in this Territory appears to be working," he said via a statement on social media on April 7, 2020.

"But we need to acknowledge that we’re not out of the woods yet," the Governor acknowledged, asking that the population continue to comply with the curfew and other measures in order to protect one another.

High Praises for Fahie Administration

Late last week, the Governor came under strong criticism by a social commentator for not giving the Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) administration enough credit for its strategies to fight the virus.

Honestly Speaking radio host, Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline had also accused the Governor of trying to upstage the current administration in its COVID-19 fight.

Governor Jaspert, in his latest statement; however, spared no time to endorse the action plan of Hon Fahie, urging the populace to listen to the Premier and follow his advice.

"As the Premier said, we have one opportunity to get this right and the safety of the people of this Territory is our top priority. The Premier also set out scientific research that has identified how effective isolating ourselves can be in stopping the spread of this virus," he said.

Abide by curfew - Gov Jaspert

The governor also reiterated Premier Fahie's calls to abide by the curfew for the good of the entire Territory.

"If we all continue to stay in our homes, we can keep ahead of the virus in this Territory. We know that you will all be keen to hear what the plans are for the end of this curfew period," Governor Jaspert said.

What he knows Fahie doesn't and the little of unimportant that Fahie knows is of little value and makes no difference.

He is giving the boy a pat on the back to make him feel worthy. The boy needs to be validated by The Man,otherwise the boy feels less than. We had complain saying The Man overlooking the boy. The Man then praised and smile at the boy. That is how we roll with our shackles.

In my eyes gut and ears, the Governor in this go round has now become patronizing and in effect, condescending to Andrew and Andrew's Gov.
He laid it on thick . I am embarassed but others are blissful pleased and happy in their ignorance . That is how they like it ,on the plantation.

@Strups...Perhaps you did not read the previous events and comments leading up to the Governor's praise. More than likely, unfortunately, your mindset would have you "strups". That's okay. This is BVI,clueless.
Praising the Premier is a good gesture, when not illicited nor prompted.
Begging Praise for the Premier from the Queen's appointed rep? Not good. You should trust me on that.

The speakers who are waiting to speak should be seated until it is their turn. It is hot, they are wearing suits, they are sweating and I am sure uncomfortable. We don't want our leaders passing out from heat exhaustion. They are doing a very good job protecting us from this Virus.

Perhaps closed to tourists. As a Permanent Resident of BVI, is time for me to come back. Left to conduct personal business on March 8. If individuals can prove that they are not carrying the virus, that never had the virus and coming from not an ALERT COUNTRY, they should be authorized to re-enter the Territory. Authorities can still impose quarantine, for good measure. But prove that they are no COVID-19 carriers should be given.

First of you people are bad minded when we had the hurricane no Ministers could have been found. The Governor stood up like a man and brought the country back to home as we know it. But because he won’t let people pockets the money from the relief funds he is bad look. Where were you when the school was being clean and rebuild no where to be found, where was the Governor? I will tell you out there cleaning school ground with his team at Governor’s residents and Governor’s office.

This pandemic was not called on by the Governor and for anyone to say that clearly shows either your a fool or have not attended school when your parents sent you.

As for our Premier hands down to you Sir you used whatever you had made all the right decision by your people and am PROUD of you not leaving out other members of government because you couldn’t have done it on your own so we as a people needs to stop looking for a fault of a reason to discredit any members of government weather it’s in the House of Assembly or the Governor’s office. To the people we all had a role to play not just our leaders and if we all unite as one the British Virgin island will be unstoppable in every walk of life we are our brothers and sisters keepers and am Proud to be a Trinidadian by birth and a BVI Islander by rights and heart so let’s put our differences aside and make the BVI shine.

once a state of emergency have been declared in this territory-the Governor takes over so one will hear more from the Governor(that is nothing new)and just a point of information when the Royal Navy finally arrived in the territory those folk made sure the Governor was taken care of while the local political leadership had to deal with their own personal issues most of them sustained extensive damage our premier at that time lost his private home: based on your blog only the Governor did anything after the hurricanes: our electricity department work long long hours to make sure an @&& like you have power

    Let's be fair.
I have read all the bloggs.democracy is alive in the bvi,on this news site
In the past,we have had some governor's who felt that we virgin islanders could be taken for a ride.we resisted the attacks
but to me,this governor seems to understand his role as the governor appoint by her majesty,to look after her majesty's territory and people.
I may sound like pilate ,but, I cannot find any wrong-doings by this governor, for which I can crucify him
it appears to me,that we in the bvi just have a historical-problem with persons with a different nationality giving us orders.we don't want to take instructions and orders from nonbelongers
its not the fault of the governor that the bvi is a british overseas territory with a governor appointed by the uk..
Now, because of an act of the uk parliament on 21st may,2002,all bvi citizens can now be registered as a uk citizen
I made use of that privilege,so as a citizen of the bvi,i became a citizen of the uk,many of us did.we are all uk citizens
so,diplomatically and with the principle of sovereignty,we are uk citizens residing in the bvi with dual citizens.
after his tenure,i would like this governor to apply for belongers status,to become a citizen of the bvi.
for too long now we have demonstrated a racist attitude toward the white uk appointed governors
I cannot recall any governor saying any thing bad about the people of the bvi
yes, some governors made some decisions which affected some of our friends, relatives etc and we took it personal because we realized,if it was left to corrupt politicians our people would get away with their corruption.
but you mean to tell me,we continue to have this level of vexaciousness toward every white uk appointed governor?
come on my people, while vino is a democratic news site and would allow every blogger to blogg freely,i believe some of us are blogging without a good motive.what has this governor done wrong in the bvi, since his tenure?
I will be writing to Buckingham palace to ask her majesty,to keep this governor in the bvi for 2 terms and more.
if something is nice, you ask for it twice.
    One love bvi
