Couple wins best kept yard prize!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Eric and Christine James as the first recipients of the “Best Kept Yard” award, an initiative that is spearheaded by the East Beautification Committee (EBC).

The committee launched its campaign this week to recognize homeowners who have the “Best Kept Yards” in the East End, Long Look, Greenland and Hope Estate communities.

The winner now has a banner displayed on their property for one week.

According to a press release from EBC, the East End is encouraged to salute the James’ “with us and encourages you to follow their lead!”

Number of years gardening: Over 25 years; Mr. James worked at Minine’s Plants

Message of encouragement to others:

Mr. James said that he along with his wife are happy to be the first recipients of the “Best Kept Yard” Banner. They never imagined that caring for their property would allow them to arrive at this point. Mr. James credits his wife Mrs. Christine James for the work done in the garden.

“Well it is my wife who really doing the work. I only assist her,” he said.

He encourages other persons to beautify around their home.

“You cannot just build a house and leave it like that. That is not a house at all. You have to plant around it and beautify it. The yard is the beauty of your home. You have to have something planted around your home,” Mr. James said.
