PROSPECT REEF, Tortola, VI – Cordell O’Neal pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful possession of explosives/ammunition when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Prospect Reef yesterday January 23, 2015.

He was remanded to prison by Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards and will be sentenced during the new month. However his mother, a respected and prominent former legislator of the Virgin Islands Mrs Irene Penn-O’Neal, and his sister Zubida O’Neal pleaded not guilty to the said alleged offences as they were all jointly charged.

The three were taken into custody on October 24, 2014 following a raid on their Pockwood Pond home by officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) who were at the time on an operation based on intelligence information gathered.

Consequent of Mrs Penn-O’Neal and her daughter pleading not guilty they are likely to face trial unless the prosecution finds cause/s to drop the case against them. That will be known when they return to court on the next occasion. However they have been placed on $80,000 and $70,000 bail respectively and with one signed surety each.

One of the things I like best about Mrs. O'neal is the secure knowledge that she can take anything they dish out at her.

as a parent you have to realize at some point that you can only guide your children so far in life and eventually you have to let them make their own way even if it means they reap the consequences of their actions

I have three sons and my daughter living in my house. My concern is, how could children carry out illegal activities in the home they share with their parents, and the parents are totally oblivious? I am aware of what goes on in my house, and I think all parents should be aware of what activities children carry on under their roof. We love our children, but we have to be strong and firm with them, and not support or condone their behaviour if it goes against what is Right. I am not pointing a finger at Irene, just saying what I believe.

"I am aware of what goes on in my house..." as do all parents, right ? You 'think' you're aware. Children in their young adult stages are usually not the persons their parents see them as. You think if one of your sons had a gun he would come to you like "Mommy/Daddy, I just buy out a strap inuh, I goin keep it such 'n such a place" ? No! So putting the blame on Mr. and Mrs. O'Neal makes no sense what-so-ever.

Did you read my comment? I definitively said, "I am not pointing a finger at Irene". I am not pointing a finger at Otto either. I said I was writing what I believe, not pointing a finger at anyone. So please and understand a comment before you shoot from the hips. Smh
