ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has said the [British] Virgin Islands’ presence at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) presents an excellent opportunity to advocate in an international forum for the needs of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) that are especially vulnerable to ill-effects of climate change.

Dr Wheatley is leading a VI delegation to COP28 from November 30 to December 6, 2023, a story first reported by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) on November 26, 2023.

“We will advance for climate justice, where major polluters recognise their responsibility to assist those disproportionately affected, in adaption and mitigation, by adopting metrics which properly assess eligibility for concessional finance,” Dr Wheatley stated in a Government Information Service (GIS) press release on November 29, 2023.

VI ready to ‘receive funding & investment’

Additionally, the Premier said the delegation will promote the Virgin Islands’ “readiness to receive funding and investment, due to our advanced legislative framework, our Climate Change Trust Fund, and a bevy of costed approved projects.”

COP28 will explore the climate-health nexus, where bi-lateral discussions on health concerns and implications of climate change will be held.

The Premier’s delegation will include Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9); Climate Change officer in the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, Ms Angela Burnett-Penn, and the Acting United Kingdom/European Union Representative Ms Tracy Bradshaw.

“readiness to receive funding and investment”. Who the hell isn’t ready to receive handouts? Why should they give us money when we pollute our own country with a busted incineration plant? The money we had to fix this stuff may be up our politicians noses.

Dear Investor, My government is looking for a goose to lay a golden egg. Although your goose will need to adapt to our climate change program, my ministry will provide suitable nesting sites for your golden goose to lay many golden eggs.
We have a" bevy of costed approved projects" that will benefit from your investment, thank you!

At the end of four years let us see what the globe trotting premier would have accomplished. One thing is for sure this planet is run by gangsters who don't have time for games. Keep fooling the naive islanders who are waiting for Jesus to return.

All political leaders by now should know that that the polluters responsibility for the Climate Change problems are the large and most populous industrial countries.
The small countries in this world must also accept responsibility for their share, though small, by cannot be compare to large industrious countries, and nations, of polluting the world negative Climate status, as presently is.
Many of the world's countries, rich in natural resources, and other available goods at there disposable, considering, and heavily investing in Nuclear Power, while others enhancing the sun's energy to help adding to the Climate Change problems.
In clear identification of man greedy nature it is hard for me to be convinced that the greater, by far, polluters will change their values financially to accommodate small countries value.

It is, in my opinion the our Premier mind is clouded for Large Forum attention, at the experience of whose interest he has promised to defend. In this world of reality the small ones suck the milk of the big ones. But in this world of economics it is the big countries sucking the wealth of the small ones.

The premier needs to keep his eyes on the next UK election. The beneficial ownership thing is not going to go away – and I think having a Labour government is not going to be very comfortable for the bvi and other OT
