CoP under fire for ‘unmanned’ CGB police station following stabbing incident
According to the co-host of Talking Points, Elvin Grant, one person was stabbed at the weekend and when persons went to the Cane Garden Bay Police Station for help no one was there.
Commissioner of Police Mark Collins had said in June 2023, that the Cane Garden Bay Police Station is open every day of the week, Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, “or 9 to 5.”
“Let me be very clear, we have not closed any police stations,” Mr Collins had said.
The evidence; however, has not been supporting Mr Collins’ statements.
CGB Police Station ‘sill unmanned’- Grant
“To this day it is still unmanned. There was an incident at the weekend where some young person was wielding a knife at some group of persons who were just having a birthday party. This is a community first of all and it’s a major tourist attraction.
“Ok, it might be the off-season, but why should any citizen turn up at the police station, to have to bang on the door, to have a note that says to call the West End Police Station if there is an incident ongoing now. By the time someone comes from West End persons could have already lost their life,” Mr Grant stated on Talking Points on ZBVI 780 AM on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Mr Grant continued that "apparently" one person was stabbed and ended up in hospital.
He said he was thankful that the injury was not life-threatening “but these are the sort of things that happen.”
CoP Collins also said in June 2023, that on occasions the Cane Garden Bay Police Station's door is closed and the reason is because the officers are out walking in the community and “talking to people and engaging.”
CoP ‘owes the public an explanation’
Mr Grant said “it’s all well and good” for the Commissioner to make statements to the press about why things are the way they are but to the person who got stabbed is “wanting to know where is the police officer? Why isn’t the station manned?”
He said many recruits have been added to the police force since the matter of the Cane Garden Bay Police Station came up a while ago. “You are telling me that we can’t have one person assigned to the station?”
Mr Grant also shared that when an officer finally came to the scene of the stabbing at Cane Garden Bay they could not subdue the individual and had to call for reinforcements.
“This perpetrator had a knife,” Mr Grant said, adding that the Commissioner of Police owes the public an explanation regarding crime fighting and the Cane Garden Bay Police Station being unmanned, “and I think it is not unreasonable to ask for that.”

Don’t even greet anyone they see on their way in. Residents often wonder who they are and what they’re doing all day.
And then you have a few officers who look like they only sleep there because they leave every morning.
Why was the CGB station not open 24 hours? The mission of the police is to serve and protect. Are not the residents of CGB area not worth protecting or they are just a bunch of mostly locals, etc. Does crime take a holiday at night? Gov pruce what you say ?
