Contract awarded; Work begins to remove derelicts from Havers

The Department of Waste Management (DWM) invited interested parties to submit tenders for the maintenance of the derelict site, which includes the processing and exportation of up to 600 derelict vehicles and agreed scrap metal and other waste at the "Pockwood Pond Derelict Site" in January 2025.
ENS Excavating & Trucking was awarded the contract, and Ahdan K. Doward told our News Centre on March 25, 2025, “Works with export should begin today.” He explained that the first phase of the project includes bailing the cars.
Phase two of the project includes the loading of the barge, and finally the exportation and closing of the site, he said.
"The entire process should be around 2 months, providing that conditions are optimal," Mr Doward added.
Derelicts being addressed as promised- Marcus E. Solomon
Director of DWM, Mr Marcus E. Solomon, also told our News Centre, “Our plan is to address, as promised to the public, the derelict vehicles on the island and ensure it sent to an external market that can treat them in an environmentally sound manner.”
ENS Excavating & Trucking will also be responsible for cleaning up the existing site.
The contract was signed between representatives of ENS Excavating & Trucking and the Minister of Health and Social Development Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), under whose ministry the DWM is, on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Hon Wheatley expressed in a social media post following the contract signing that he was happy to work with the Stoutt family “as we strive to clean up the Territory”.
