Concerns raised on lack of project bids from Third District
“We have just tendered three additional projects… we’ve tendered six projects so far, I don’t think that we have seen any bids from the [Third] District,” Dr Glasgow said during a community meeting with residents at the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre on April 28, 2014.
The meeting was held to provide an update to residents in Pleasant Valley, Palestina Estate and surrounding areas on the National Disasters - Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project - Pleasant Valley Road and Bridge Rehabilitation Project that is currently ongoing in Pleasant Valley.
Dr Glasgow said he observed that contractors had a lot of energy at the beginning of the current projects being executed in the District and questioned why this may have decreased.
“We encourage joint ventures,” Dr Glasgow continued while noting that this may help to persuade contractors to offer their services in conjunction with others.
Tree preservation
During the meeting, Third District Representative Hon. Julian Fraser, RA questioned whether a number of trees located in the vicinity of Pleasant Valley and Palestina where the works were being conducted will be cut.
He advised that they be preserved at all cost and said he would hate to see one of those trees destroyed. “I think we have work to do but it shouldn’t come at the expense of the environment,” Hon. Fraser said.
Works Minister Hon. Mark H. Vanterpool sought the assurance of project managers Dr Mark Taylor and Mr Richard Taylor that the trees would not be touched during the works being executed.
