‘Come forward with information’- Family of Ashburn A. Dawson
It will begin at 6:00 PM on Saturday March 18, 2017. A short ceremony to follow will include tributes, prayers, messages, singing, the lighting of candles and balloons will be released in memory of the deceased.
‘Come forward with any info’
Dawson’s aunt, Lena Thomas-Mongra, in an exclusive with this news site, informed that the event is two-fold in that it will act as a memorial as well as a to encourage members of the public to assist the police in any way with their investigation.
“The family, because he was so close to everyone, thought to do a memorial sooner rather than later, one to remember him publicly, but more importantly to perhaps sensitise the public as to the need for people to come forward,” she informed.
“Come forward with any information that they may have, if anyone believes anything, if anyone saw anything, if they are afraid to reach out to the police do it anonymously, send a note, send a message, something, so that they can assist them with the investigation and try to find out as soon as possible who would have perpetrated this heinous act on Ashburn.”
A mild, loving man
Dawson, who was a businessman and an employee of the High Court Registry where he worked for a number of years, was described by his family as very humble, loving, kind and soft spoken.
“He was good at showing emotions, he liked to kiss, and he liked to hug, very into his family. A lot of people are hurting because of who he was and his character especially. I don’t think for his entire life I have heard him raise his voice five times, he was very soft spoken and mild,” Thomas-Mongra noted.
Family seeks closure
The grieving relative said the police are actively pursuing his murder and the family and friends are still trying to figure out why his life was taken away in the manner that it did.
“So we wanted to reach out to the public, the family would like closure, and closure never happens until you know why your loved one was taken away.”
Stop spreading rumours & help
Thomas-Mongra, in addition, used the opportunity to call on the many persons who she said relishes in spreading rumours about her nephew, to remember them in prayer and instead assist the police in any way they can.
“Rather than spreading things that we don’t know at this time, whether it is true or not,” the hurting woman said.
All are welcome to attend, and Thomas-Mongra thanked those who have shown support and love to the family at their time of loss.
The late Dawson is survived by his parents and one son. The cause of the shooting is still under investigation; however, according to police sources, it was around 10:00 PM on March 10, 2017 while the deceased was on his motor scooter between Centies’ Store and a burger snackette in the area of the Sunday Morning Well, when a hail of gun shots went off allegedly aimed at him.
It is reported that at least three shots hit Mr Dawson and he fell to the ground on the public road. Before the ambulance arrived there were members of the public trying to assist the man; however, he subsequently died at Peebles Hospital, despite many attempts by paramedics to revive him.
So far no one has reportedly been arrested for the crime.
