ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Former Mrs BVI Angelle A. Cameron, who hosts the social media ‘My BVI’ talk show, has called on Virgin Islanders to understand the severity of the ongoing Commission of Inquiry in the Virgin Islands (VI), and its possible impacts to set the VI back more than seventy years in terms of its ability to be self-determined.

Speaking on the April 27, 2021, edition of the show, alongside co-host Bishop John I. Cline of the New Life Baptist Church, Mrs Cameron urged Virgin Islanders to ‘Look a Little Closer’ in terms of all that is happening and the timing of the CoI.

“People need to understand the details of it, what the inquiry can do, the positive sides of the Inquiry, the negative sides of the Inquiry.”

Impacts of CoI on VI economy

“Do we need to have good governance, and can a commission do that? Yes, these inquiries are said to do that. Is there good intent behind all of these CoI’s? Probably not, and those are realistic things that we really have to post to the public,” she said.

According to the former beauty queen, Virgin Islanders ought to also question the timing of the CoI, which came during the global coronavirus pandemic.

“Of all the things that matter the most, why is this being pushed? … as a community we need to be having these roundtable discussions, what does this look like? How is this going to impact our ability in the financial services world? Because it will have an impact, a direct impact,” she said while pointing to other industries like tourism and the possible impacts by the CoI.

CoI & unassented bills

Pointing to recent statements by HoA speaker, Hon Julian Willock about (UK) Secretary of State Dominic R. Raab indicating that the Drugs (Prevention of Misuse) (Amendment) Act is being further delayed due to the ongoing CoI, Mrs Cameron shared her concerns about the reasoning.

“It shouldn’t have anything to do with the other unless we are under direct rule, and we don’t know yet, unless our constitution has been suspended and we are unaware… so one should not lead to the other,” she said.

Mr Raab himself is under the microscope in the UK, having refused to release legal advice to back his claim that the UK government’s £5bn-a-year overseas aid cut is lawful – as he hinted it could be extended.

According to Cameron, to say that decisions on the bills are awaiting the outcome of the CoI, “They are linking two things that shouldn’t be and they are directly violating our constitution at present, so when we see these stories and inquiring coming up, we need to be aware as a public,” she said.

Mrs Cameroon illustrated that a CoI is just an inquiry and, therefore, it ought to not stop the business of the government from moving forward.

Angelle is spot on. It's like the CoI is a done deal...the UK wants to put us backwards so we remain under colonialism (they will call it something else). This thing is very very serious but I don't think it has hit home enough what the former slave masters are going to do to this BVI. Wake up BVI, put differences aside and protect our advancements at all cost. Since when did our enslavers care about us? Do you think now? ReallY? Think Irma and COVID. No substantial assistance but free experimental vaccines. I know majority of BVI people smart and seeing through their agenda but for the others that sleeping and sucking up to the WM bottom (have some pride), you will regret because you preferred to remain in Eqypt! Shalom

Stop asked, "And who are you to make that statement"? Kitchen is sending her, "back to the kitchen". stick to your beauty pageants, tells her to stay in your lane as he posited, "as you do not seem to know a lot about any other topics". Wow! Sounds like one of the FOX News anchor telling Lebron James to stick to playing basketball doesn't it? does anyone of these three persons believe that one is defined by the work they're chosen and all other arenas should be closed. While the likes is quite strong I doubt many understand that this is simply telling our ladies to but out of these matters to sit and take it without a murmur. There's a suggestion that anyone in opposition to the COI will be blasted off the air from the scene run or cower. The bullies with their ulterior motives keep working the keys for these Cays

Wicked people hate justice. They see the skin color of those that came to help ease the pains of subpression caused by many selffish political leaders and others as evil, rather than see the good that they stand for, and are ministering for our good. Accept the CoL investigations. Only the secret things of God remain hidden.
Honest prayers to God our Creator mingled with faith truly works for the good of all.

If we have not violated the Constitution and they (UK) have not suspended the Constitution they don't have the right to hold up any VI governmental activities. They can't arbitrarily put our Government on hold pending the out come of the COI.

“Of all the things that matter the most, why is this being pushed? " Because millions upon millions of dollars of no-bid contracts have been issued along with a very serious amount of nepotism and cronyism. That my dear is why "this" is being pushed.

@Really - obviously I'm talking about the BVI - I said Millions with an "M". If I was talking about the UK it would be Billions with a "B". Everybody knows that the criminality and corruption in the UK are on a MUCH bigger scale. But hey, wrong is wrong and all these pocket-lining politicians, regardless of where they are from, should be held to account.

Only ignorant people who cares nothing about the BVI will want the UK to impose direct rule on the BVI. I for one as a BVIslander is not in favour of direct rule in any way shape or form. What I want is for those corrupt elements to be uprooted and if this means those corrupt elements being subject to the rule of law so be it. That is the correct way to do it rather than imposing direct rule, which is colonialism. There is no other word to descripe direct rule other than to say it is colonialism and people should not accept this in any way shape or form.

@ John . Tell me how can the corrupt help the corrupt? Why we feel that the country that encourages colonialism all these years and the current findings of the UK Prime minister have any good towards its OT especially the BVI.
WHY is the BVI their main attraction that they desperately want.
Why are all those UK , USA and other non nationals living here or not blogs are so negative and racist? But some are living here under the awful conditions they are blogging about Why not go back where they came from?
Black stay woke. These people are using these platform to cause decisiveness among the people. Don't fall for it. Keep your heads on.
