CoI Commissioner asks for extension to deliver final report
Pointing to a number of factors he claimed has affected the work of the Commission, Mr Hickinbottom said that as a result, it is not possible for him to deliver the report by the July 19, 2021, original target date.
Hickenbottom’s announcement for an extension came only at today’s Wednesday’s June 2, 2021, opening of the first public hearing Day 8, which was live-streamed on the CoI’s dedicated YouTube Channel.
More suspicion lingers
The move has sparked more suspicion over the UK-sponsored Inquiry, that as more transparency is being demanded of the inquiry, the Commissioner suddenly needs more time to complete his report.
Press Secretary Steven Chandler in a statement said the commissioner had repeatedly expressed his readiness to use the wide powers he has to direct the CoI’s procedures to ensure the CoI is able to work as flexibly and efficiently as possible.
“That is particularly important given the pandemic. At the hearing, the Commissioner expressed his hope that all those involved in the CoI will work to ensure that it proceeds in an organised and efficient manner,” he said.
Governor Gives more time
The commissioner has said that while Governor John J. Rankin, CMG, has been kind enough to indicate that more time will be given, he requested a progress report of the CoI by mid-July before Mr Rankin appoints a date by which he will require the report.
“I am grateful to His Excellency. He, and all those who live in the BVI, may rest assured that I will press forward with the inquiry, and deliver my report, with all due speed,” Mr Hickinbottom said.

A Good government govern selflessly. A corrupt one causes the CoI to investigate probably acts of corruption against its own employer, the people.
Support the CoI probing. Skin color and country of birth has nothing with fairness, unselfish love does.
Support the CoI probing of probable mishandling of public funds over a number of years. It is the righteous and wise thing to do.
Some of these pale face species have a serious hate for caribbean folks we are still seen as the sons & daughters of slaves so we don't have much human value or purpose
If you’re gonna rant about who is and who is not racist, better check your language first.
Although I find it useful to remember we are also all Earthlings.
I come in peace
What matters is how you feel about you and those who look like you.
Destroying those who look like you is self hate,a hate that cannot be equalled.
Love your self,your brothers,your sisters.
It is difficult to love those who are loathsome to themselves.
