Coach 'Cass' honoured for 30 years to local football
The second leg of the festival was held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the football field in Greenland, Tortola.where a strong participation of women and young girls was received, despite the persistent rainfall.
The ladies and the Women's Committee of the BVI Football Association also did very well to keep the planned honouring of Coach Gregg a top secret.
According to Mr Dean H. Greenaway aka 'The Sportsman', Gregg has earned the respect of both males and females due to her unwavering commitment to the sport.
“Coach Cass is very loved, very committed and she has been doing this for more than 30 years. Should we honour her next week? I think we should honour her today, what you all think?” Greenaway said as the surprise was pounced on Gregg.
Ms Gregg was presented with a banner with the words 'Thank You' and was also given a plaque.
'Grateful'
In a state of shock and humility, Coach Cass said, “I am very grateful for this. I love what I do and I will continue to do what I am doing with or without money. I do not look for awards. I really don’t take things from people but I appreciate this venture, thanks to all who are involved,” she said in response.
Present to witness the honouring were Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Honourable Sharie B. de Castro (AL) and Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8).
