CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI – Two leading Virgin Islands fungi bands will perform at this week's edition of Carrot Bay Cultural Thursdays in what is being billed as a “clash of the fungi bands”.

Leon and the Hotshots of Virgin Gorda and the Razor Blades of Sea Cows Bay will be the featured entertainment. Both bands are well known throughout the territory and there is often friendly banter about which one is the best. Thursday will give the public the opportunity to judge for themselves.

According to Committee chairman Monica Howson in a press release from the desk of First District Representative Dr the Hon Karl Dawson, there will also be a gallery of art and culture on display by the Department of Culture, cultural games such as marbles and jump rope, and a natural drinks happy hour. DJ Mars will complement the live musical entertainment.

One-year anniversary

Cultural Thursdays was initiated to feature Virgin Islands food, drink, entertainment, and activities with the objective of preserving and presenting them to future generations of Virgin Islands residents and visitors to the territory.

July 2024 marks one year since the initiation of the activity.

Dr Dawson said, “I am very proud of the commitment shown by the vendors and the community to cultural Thursdays over the past year. It is this persistence, even in the face of challenges, that marks the Virgin Islands’ spirit. It is a pleasure to work with this excellent team.”

This week's activity on Thursday, July 18, begins officially at 3:00 PM but vendors will be on hand from as early as 1:30 PM to accommodate students from summer camps who wish to experience this cultural display. Entertainment by the bands will begin at 5:30 PM.

Exactly! Why! They don't support the Event. Their excuse is that "Our Sabbath Starts at 6PM or Sundown on Friday."
