City Manager wants private businesses to pave pathway
She expressed this concern while giving brief remarks on Friday June 20, 2014 during which Caribbean Insurers Limited (CIL) dedicated the newly paved section of their office frontage, a pathway that is frequented by many on a daily basis.
“I would like to encourage businesses to step outside the box, Ms [Patsy] Lake did not have a partner and she did it on her own, Caribbean Insurers Limited they don’t have a partner, they did theirs on their own, but if you look up the road everybody has a second so they could do it in pairs so it shouldn’t be as expensive,” noted Mrs Brathwaite-Edwards.
She said that it was a plus when she was initially called by Caribbean Insurers Limited indicating that they were going to fix their section at their frontage. “I must say that’s a plus for the city they were going to use their own funds. I had just become City Manager and that was one of the biggest things that had happened to me that at least another entity that was not directly involved with the city decided to follow Ms Lake and come out and do something outside.”
What seems to be a catching trend when the section in front the Cutlass building was paved earlier this year is being further encouraged. “The results are excellent,” she applauded. “We hope that this would inspire us and inspire others to do the same thing,” said Brathwaite-Edwards
CIL said that very soon they will be adding some street lighting and signage to future enhance the ambiance of the area. “We hope that people in the city will continue to do things like this, we are standing on Crown land, Caribbean Insurers Limited does not have to fix this property but they did and I think that people need to understand that government can’t do everything,” said Mrs Brathwaite-Edwards “So we need to partner and come together and do things like this,” she added.
General Manger of ADC Constructions Mr Dion Stoutt who was contracted for the project of CIL endorsed the call made by the City Manager. He said that having been on the ground for the project opened his eyes to the extent of the usage of the pathway on a daily basis. “So if we can continue this all the way up to Bolo/Vanterpool I think it would be an excellent thing,” said Mr Stoutt.
