Ciboney Center for Excellence received $1K Hon Ralph T. O’Neal Hat Parade grand prize

VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- The annual Hon Ralph T. O’Neal Hat Parade’s grand prize of one thousand dollars was donated to the Ciboney Center for Excellence.

The hat parade formed part of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival celebrations.

Principal of the Ciboney Center for Excellence, Ms Laura Fox, said the donation is meaningful to the school. 

“These proceeds go towards our scholarship fund for graduation. We do have four annual scholarships, one of which is the Hon Ralph T. O’Neal Award, and it is given to students who exemplify leadership within the school and the community,” she said. 

Winners of the hat parade

The annual hat parade in honour of Hon Ralph T. O’Neal on Sunday, April 20, 2025. 

The awards won were as follows:

Berton Creque Award ($500)- Dr Amber Wheatley and Miss Shaina Smith-Archer

Best Church Hat Award- Miss Rose Gardner and Miss Pat Mead

Best Woven Straw Hat- Mr Jahnai Caul

Prettiest Hat- Ms Dawn Flax

Funniest Hat- Miss Fiona Ramgobin

Miss Gardner also contributed her $200 cash prize to Ciboney Center for Excellence on behalf her of grandchildren Ray and Rayya, past students of the school.
