Christopher Martin, Destra hype it up! [Gallery Included]
From “I’ll be your Driver”, “Giving it” to “Cheaters Prayer”, Martin, using his distinguished vocals, fed the packed Claudette “Boopie” Smith Festiville with his lyrical and melodious credence.
Shouts and screams from women emanated, as the young artist who was evidently the most loved performer last evening, took off his shirt to unveil a physique that seemed to have touched many senses as many women were seen staring with their mouths wide open while others were screaming hysterically. It was unclear whether Martin’s body or his voice created the most impact on them.
The singer also belted out some conscious level songs such as “Real Friends” while he dedicated a rendition to his mom describing her as his best friend.
while he added favourites such as “If you can’t love me now”, that wasn’t all, Martin brought on guest performer Laza Morgan who put on an outstanding performance as well when he sang the very popular “One by One.
Prior to Martin’s performance, reggae sensation Delroy “Junior” Reid and his entourage took to the stage, where during Reid’s performance he brought out his son as well as a young female act. Reid’s performances included his famous “One Blood”, “This is why I'm hot”, “Bad mind”, along with “Shine I gal” and others.
Age had nothing to do with his performance and delivery, as usual, Barrington Levy, who came on before Reid, delivered an up-tempo lover’s rock session when he took the stage after 1 a.m., belting out tune after tune, taking patrons down memory lane with “Living Dangerously”, “Too experienced”, "Work”, “My woman” and “Black Roses”.
Last night’s reggae fest opened with local performer Heritage, Imo and Shine I. The three Virgin Islands reggae singers gave good accounts of themselves, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in reggae music. The local acts also drew a good crowd with Shine I during his performance introducing his sister who also sang a song with him. It was after Shine I’s performance at the end of his new song “Pheonix” that the rain came down, sending patrons scattering for cover and causing an hour interruption in the show.
The Reggae show was brought down in soca style with soca diva Destra putting on her usual gyrating performance to close the show after 5 a.m. this morning.
Action in the village continues tonight with the International Soca Show where several regional artists will again be performing including, Sherwin Winchester, Kassav, Skinny Fabulous and others.
