Christopher M. Kiwomya resigns as head coach of VI’s national football team

Significant legacy
Mr Kiwomya, a former England youth player and coach of Arsenal Academy, was unveiled as the new Head Coach in October 2021.
“After three years of dedicated service, Coach Kiwomya has stepped down from his role, leaving behind a significant legacy in the evolution of football within the British Virgin Islands,” the BVIFA stated in a press release today, October 16, 2024.
The BVIFA said since joining the team, Coach Kiwomya has been a pivotal force in the team’s growth, leading them to a series of notable achievements. Among these milestones was the team’s first victory in decades, marking a historic breakthrough in the sport’s local landscape.
“Additionally, under his leadership, the squad competed vigorously in the World Cup qualifying campaign, setting a new standard of performance and commitment. His strategic approach and unwavering passion have left an indelible mark on both the players and the wider football community,” the BVIFA added.
VI achieved history under Coach Kiwomya
In March 2023, under Coach Kiwomya, the Virgin Islands won its first CONCACAF Qualifier for the FIFA World Cup. They had drawn 1-1 with the US Virgin Islands in St Croix and then defeated them on penalties in the home leg.
The BVIFA expressed its “sincere gratitude” to Coach Kiwomya for his dedication and contributions. It said his efforts have played a vital role in raising the standard of play and laying a foundation for the future of football in the Virgin Islands.
The association also said that as the team moves forward, the BVIFA is committed to building on Coach Kiwomya’s achievements and will soon begin the search for a new head coach to lead the team to further success.
“The BVIFA is proud of the progress our national team has made under Coach Chris’s leadership,” said BVIFA President Mr.Avanell Morton. “His influence extends far beyond the pitch, and we are grateful for the inspiration and professionalism he brought to the team and the community.”

Seems like the coach resign before he got fired. The coach use the local players because his words they are not good enough.
