So the neighbor could not look for the man. I'm sure in a fire the people living would know who living there the amount of people living there and try to locate everyone, making sure the are safe and not trapped inside.

To please install a smoke detector and a carbon monoxide doctor in your home. Landlords of apartment buildings should be required to install the above mentioned in each rental unit.

Let me see if I get this right. Joe is elderly and lives alone. There is a fire at Joe's house and nobody including Police, Neighbours or newsmongers had the presence of mind to ask, where is Joe?

Guest is right. This not starting with the police. Any investigator (Police or Fire ) going to a scene like that would ask at least two questions Who own or live at the location? Where is that person? Efforts should then be make to locate the person and where their whereabouts are not known, it could be deduced that the person may be inside the building. If you are a Police Officer it is a "common sense" you should embrace.

Nope. We were too busy taking pics and videos to be the first to post on social media. That was our main priority. (I said sarcastically).

This is sad. but we live in times when no one cares for neighbors, friends or anyone else for that matter. But for the record the man who lived there, it was not his house. I have lived east most of my life but from what I know he kept to himself. He would move from one abandoned house to another. The sad thing is many of us in east know him by seeing him but like I said he keeps to himself and avoid people. Never knew his name but I assume he was related to them Frett and Penn Family. Occasionally he would catch whelks and would sell them for a little change and that was that. But his close neighbors(davies) would be able tell fire that someone did live there so they could have looked for him. Just saying.....

The fire officers got all kinds of big -ups from the authorities, but a charred body inside and they didn't know. Frankly, I'm not surprised and I don't care what explanation they give. This is quite inexcusable in my opinion. I'll wait to hear what was the cause of the fire , although I don't think that information will be forthcoming any time soon.

I'll never forget many, many years ago when there was a fire that destroyed Hazem Shoe Store, Bolo's Printery and part of the restaurant upstairs (think it was Cozy Inn). Up to now, McClean can't say how the fire started, Bolo's never continued the printery, etc. We just are not ready in this small place. It's more than high time people start doing their jobs properly.
