ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Jamaican native with Virgin Islands Belonger status Nickail Chambers was today, July 12, 2019 sentenced in the High Court to spend 10 years in prison for possession of a firearm and attempted murder.

Chambers, a repeat offender, had attempted to kill his schoolmate Cory Prince in Fort Hill, Tortola, on June 22, 2017.

The electrician was sentenced to 12 years each on the firearm and attempted murder charges; however, after a discount of two years each for his early guilty plea, Chambers will serve 10 years imprisonment for each offence.

Both sentences are to run concurrently, beginning July 22, 2018 when he was first placed on remand.

Fight over $60

During the trial, the court was told that a fight had ensued between Chambers and Prince over $60 owed by Prince but the scuffle was broken up by persons on the scene.

Sometime later, Chambers turned up at Prince’s workplace on Fort Hill with a loaded firearm and began discharging several rounds towards Prince.

Prince managed to escape unhurt and the matter was subsequently reported to the police.

Chambers subsequently turned himself in to police and was later charged for the offence.

A set of clowns passing their stupidity from one generation to another. The so called Emancipation celebration was started at the coronation of the queen, What are we really celebrating here. Its the same foolishness with religion but the idiots are to simple to figure out what is being done to them. This is why they are being made to support so many independent countries but cant achieve it for themselves. Its so amusing to see them puffed up with false pride strutting around clueless.

There is a misconception of some residents who were given the privilege to reside and work in the Virgin Islands and do not show appreciation for that. Instead of writing negative and disparaging comments of the territory that we call home while we are living here, one should re-think and express gratitude to the government of the Virgin Islands.

I was fortunate to have that privilege to reside here too and I may have some concerns, however, I conducted myself in a decent manner. If the gentleman breaks the law and went as far as to attempt to take someone's life then he has to face the consequences. I want to urge all expats who are living here to make good of the opportunity and give a good account of themselves. When one reflect on what is happening in the United States where they are deporting people regularly for overstaying their times and other minor offences, I think the Virgin Islands is doing better

@ Charlie Rose: the issue in the British Virgin Islands is the enforcement of labor laws; immigration laws: so many documented works in our territory are in violation of the laws: some of them full of chat but some how have difficulties leaving the British Virgin Islands:the leadership of immigration and labour can not get a grip and regulate: some folks came to BVI for a 2 week holiday and now here for 20 months: work permits giving permission to work for one person however some of them have their own business on the side: when some documented worker make piss remarks about this territory I have no issue(every one have their personal opinion) the blatant violation of the laws is a true sign of poor leadership(one fellow tryi selling me a vehicle) the young man on a work permit and have no trade licence but conducting trade in the territory: I see the whole situation get further out of control because government focus on tourism: some of us paying the various tax contributions while some others making tax free money and this a known fact within government circles yet nothing done: for a territory this big there are far to many wrong doings(immigration & labour) keep the faith:
