KINGSTOWN, Tortola, VI - Cedar International School has been ranked the number one private school in the Virgin Islands (VI) by Schoolbell.net.

Schoolbell.net is a global education rankings platform dedicated to providing data-driven insights into the world’s leading schools and universities.

The rankings released on December 25, 2025, use data-driven contextual reputation scores which reflect online credibility, visibility, and trustworthiness. Cedar International School topped with a contextual reputation score of 100.

2 other private schools ranked

Century House Montessori School followed closely behind with a score of 99.7, and Ciboney Centre for Excellence ranked third with a score of 98.9.

The annual ranking evaluates private schools in the Virgin Islands- independent institutions that offer internationally recognised curricula, Montessori education, and specialised learning experiences for both local students and expatriate families- using a data-driven contextual reputation score, a press release from Schoolbell.net explained.

It added that a higher score indicates stronger online credibility and greater recognition among families, educators, and the wider educational community, helping parents make more informed enrollment decisions.

Families deserve this information

The release quotes a Schoolbell.net spokesperson as saying, “Families exploring private education options in the British Virgin Islands deserve clear, reliable insights.”

They added that their 2025 rankings are designed to spotlight schools that consistently demonstrate strong reputations and meaningful educational value, making the school selection process more transparent and accessible.

Why is our government letting these practically apartheid-style white schools exist in our community? It looks like they want to ensure their kids obtain belongership status without interacting much with the black population. They just throw in a token few to avoid looking too obviously racist. This practice needs to end.

First of all, im pretty sure there's an even ratio of blacks to white attending the school of which most of them go straight off to university around the world. So before you jump on your high donkey and start passing your negative comments, get your facts straight first. Strupppppsss. Have several seats wayyyy in the back of the class. Period.

Wrong, there is not a high ratio of blacks because of the high cost of enrollment not a coincidence for sure. And if you have a donkey or ass that you wish to ride, you do so, but you’re not riding us! We see what’s going on in our homeland.

I agree with you. There is a lot that goes on in that school that their board covers down, sweeps under a rug. All eyes always on Elmore because they dont cover down the ills that the school is facing, but Cedar has had some serious situations pop up over the years. They are not exempt from inappropriate behavior between student and staff, and drug use. Of course you wont get any of them to admit it, because afterall....Dont let this ranking fool anybody, all that glitters is not gold.

There is not an even ratio, so stop fronting. Why dont you tell us what happens to kids that are caught on campus smoking and doing drugs. Where do they end up if their parents dont have relatives or money to ship them out? What happens when students are caught violating other rules? How will the ratio be even when students are removed throughout the year for various reasons other than expulsion, like parents migrating back to home country, etc. Tell the truth, or keep out the convo.

All of the schools in the BVI are melting pots. There is no one school where its just all blacks. And even amongst the blacks there are still different ethnicities. What exactly makes Cedar a dominant private school, the IB program? I am very well aware of how parents pressure admin who pressure the teachers to change students' grades knowing fully well the kid got the grade they deserved initially. But because of who the parent is and the size of their donations, they can yell and scream to get what they want. There is a lot of foolishness that goes on in that school. They are NOT perfect, nor should they deemed the best private school especially not over Montessori. I would not trust them with my dog!

Even if they are white, the program they use is not local. So don't get offended its just International. That means its recognised by major tertiary institutions as the standard they will accept. Maybe the local program is just as good but i think it is to be decided. Remember, quality education comes down to one thing, resources. 1 teacher to 40 kids vs 1 teacher to 10 kids. Which do you think will perform better? Think about it.

… but a student from Elmore stoutt high school will out perform a student from cedar school. This has been proven many many times. If the education is as good as you claim . Shouldn’t they be winning some of the local competitions ahead of students from ESHS?

While you might be correct about ESHS students out performing Cedar School students in local competitions. The question can be asked, Is the competition fair or balanced? Who sets the standard for the competition? A fair panel is always recommended. I can say that Expat children have always performed well in local schools but are always overlooked for scholarships. Either way, School should be a place for leaning and what i have realised is that politics is in everything these days. Cedar School is a reputable educational institution, ESHS is an educational institution but who will compare them? I am sure if all schools have the required resources they will do well at educating the kids of tomorrow. Cedar just has the resources and program to prepare its students for the next chapter of their academic life.

Scholarships are intended for citizens, and those on temporary contracts are meant to work here for a specific period, without enrolling their children in schools here to obtain scholarships that are reserved for local students. In fact, labor contracts should be limited to a maximum of five years. Give someone a foot they will take a mile.

If they choose not to educate their children in the same manner as we do, then what justifies their presence as educators here? If this were a school managed by black individuals, would we permit such alterations to the curriculum? Do they frequently educate them about your cultural heritage? After receiving this alternative education model, will the children be returning home to a more ‘international style’ life?

This argument ignores reality. The BVI curriculum itself is not uniformly applied many schools already use Barbados or Guyanese frameworks depending on the teacher.

These students are taught BVI culture and heritage, and attending a different school does not erase who they are or where they come from. Education should be judged on outcomes and student wellbeing, not fear-driven assumptions.
          • @Really (27/12/2025, 09:35) Like (1) Dislike (3) Reply
I disagree. These schools appear to be segregated alternative educational institutions designed to accommodate the lifestyle of parents who are unwilling to assimilate into the authentic culture and heritage of the Virgin Islands, yet still desire a stake in these lands. This practice seems to be grounded in apartheid and must come to an end. As stated by the United States government, if one refuses to assimilate in another's country, they should depart. This reflects the New international order of our times.

Who is teaching these "cultutre & heritage" classes? From what I remember, any black face amongst the teaching staff could be asked to teach it, and they did not necessarily have to be a BVIslander. They simply had to do their research and teach the kids what they found out. While I applaud the effort it just seems that the children would be learning this info in isolation because 1. The are not Caribbean nationals and see no relevance of it to their lives. 2. It does not mesh with the IB program which governs the school curriculum. Cedar needs to make more effort to take part in national cultural events, agri fairs, August parade, culture week, competitions involving culture like coming up with annual Festival slogans, etc.

Now locals who can afford Cedar school use it exclusively. Well done to the people who worked hard to make it the best school on the island.

So, just because our schools are led by Black individuals, they are not up the par? You keep your schools so costly that only a select few non-white families can afford to enroll their kids and this is systematic racism and segregation. If you have issues with our country why stick around to open schools for your children so they can stay long enough to gain status here? What prevents your country from ensuring your employment, given the exceptional education provided by its schools, which is significantly superior to ours?

Generally, a considerably lower percentage of other ethnic groups is present. What is the rationale behind allowing this here? The children are enrolled in school here to secure Belongership, undoubtedly. Additionally, they engage with only a handful of individuals in the community, much like their parents do. What term would you use to describe this system? Then they want to call themselves Virgin Islanders.
      • H (27/12/2025, 08:03) Like (8) Dislike (1) Reply
Kids are not enrolled in these schools to achieve status, they are enrolled because they are of school age and when people move here they are told that spaces in local schools are allocated to belonger kids and there isn't enough space so to budget for private school. You want people to just keep their kids out of school rather than use the private school options provided?
        • @H (27/12/2025, 09:57) Like (2) Dislike (3) Reply
Numerous individuals who take on short-term contracts abroad typically choose to leave their children in their home countries instead of relocating them. Additionally, parents are having children in the Virgin Islands and enrolling them in local schools with the hope of securing belongership status for their children.

Television does not create racism; rather, it is the influence of parents. Thus, we would like to know how many of your parents take part regularly in cultural and heritage events in our community with their children, ‘broken down by race’. How many of them have assimilated into our society through the years and have recently?

Cedar school will do well because it is not politically driven and they have upper management who knows what they are doing. They are consistent with the programs and their system of operations. They have fewer distractions, and the list goes on. With the Ministry of Education BVI, they keep changing systems and operations ever so often. Every year seems to be something different with the curriculum. Sometimes in the middle of the term or school year is something new that makes no sense. There are new principals who are merely paper pushers and not instructional leaders. They just want to outdo each other on Facebook with all these additional things. The public education system has regressed over the years. I am convinced that at this point the CEO and minister are clueless. I hope next elections things really change and they get someone who knows and cares about education to push it forward.

There are often one or two individuals who can be found to advocate for this perspective. This nation is fundamentally a Black country, rich in Black Culture and Black Heritage, and neither you nor anyone else can diminish that reality. If you find it impossible to integrate, it is necessary for all of you—regardless of being Black, White, or of another ethnicity—to depart.

Enough with pulling this race card. It’s always about the white people and when it’s not, it’s about the down island people who are mostly blacks and coloured folks. Stick to the topic here and let’s address the issue. The education system here has absolutely no standards, hence the ‘white people’ opened their own school. Ok fine. BVI has the opportunity to be more involved and place more focus on CSEC (CXC) but what does ESHS do? They allow the children to write a mere 4 or 5 subjects after spending 6 years in a high school. Explain that nonsense. Look at Guyana, outstanding performance with the kids gaining more than 25 grade ones. And yes it’s crazy because I myself can’t even name 25 subjects. But come on man, the laid back mentality and the bottom line is the education system sucks. I said so, I’m a parent and that’s my opinion. ENOUGH with the race card now, pull y’all socks up and UPGRADE! Jeez man!

f the education system is so inadequate here, why are your children in the Virgin Islands? Clearly, it is economically beneficial for them once they graduate, and for you or else you would not be working in a country that lacks a robust educational framework, instead of being in your own nation where your so-called education is significantly more esteemed. The Euros cannot escape accountability in this matter. Mental slavery and a subservient mindset are prevalent among a select few societal fools. This marks a new era.

    Congratulations, CIS!

Now, as for whether it's a racist institution, I say, NO!

All students, regardless of race, creed, national origin, or ethnicity are allowed to attend!

Whether enrollment fees are used to determine eligibility, well, that's another discussion!

I can understand the need for such an institution if the minority population is interested in honing in their children, the skills neccessary, for the continuity,of the mores, and nuances, of their race!

You see, school, or the going to one, is not merely about getting an education! The school environment teaches, culture, language development, commaderie, and the process of learning skills, neccessary, for the success of future generations!

And, the minority population wants their children to think, speak, act, and possess the mores, and nuances of their "superior"culture!
And, most importantly, in an environment where their children, see their own people, in important roles of passing on these skills, collectively!

And, schools, reinforces all that. Henceforth, the need for the controlled environment!

Why can't the Ministry of Education, conduct a similar environment, where schools passes on nuances and mores, for the continuity of the Vorgin Islands people?

I think this is where the narrative needs to go!

This observation is the reason for their need to return home. They must go back to a country with a culture and education that is so superior that its citizens have found ways to travel to the Virgin Islands for employment. This represents an attempt to segregate and undermine the culture and the people of these lands.

In order for your child to attend Cedar School, you need Cedar School money. Their fees are extremely overpriced compared to other private schools. Not all of the teachers are friendly—some come across as unwelcoming, and at times it feels racially biased toward Black families. Many teachers appear to be there mainly for the U.S. dollar, and a large number are not locals. Teachers come from different countries, islands, and even the mainland USA. Only a small percentage are BVI teachers, and even then, most BVI teachers are placed in roles as educational assistants rather than full teachers.

It seems that individuals at these institutions and several others in the broader expat community are collectively unaccepting of complete assimilation; if this were not the case, it would not be a topic of discussion on this blog. These scholarships seem to serve merely as superficial gestures of deceptive inclusion tactics.
