CDC to US travellers: 'Resources may be limited' if you get sick in VI
This advisory came from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on August 31, 2020, following the announcement of over 47 positive cases of the virus.
The Virgin Islands borders are currently closed to tourists.
The CDC said the VI is now at level three, meaning the risk of getting COVID-19 is high and is rising.
“Within the last 14 days, new cases of COVID-19 in the Virgin Islands (British) increased. If you get sick in the Virgin Islands (British) and need medical care, resources may be limited,” the CDC said.
Advisory is for essential travellers too!
The CDC said the advisory is also for persons travelling for humanitarian aid work, medical reasons, or family emergencies, classified as essential travellers.
“Older adults, people of any age with certain underlying medical conditions, and others at increased risk for severe illness should consider postponing all travel, including essential travel, to the Virgin Islands (British),” it added.
In the meantime, the advisory also said, persons travelling to the Territory would have to be tested and quarantined for a two week period, adding that “If you test positive on arrival, you may be required to isolate for a period of time.”
It continued: “You may even be prevented from returning to the United States, as scheduled. If you get exposed to a person with COVID-19 while abroad, you may be quarantined or not be permitted to return to the United States until 14 days after your last exposure.”
Due to the spike in cases, the Territory is under 1:00pm to 5:00am curfew from today, Wednesday, September 2, 2020, for 14 days.
