CCTV upgrades coming for Tortola
In a press release on November 12, 2024, the RVIPF said the upgrade marks a significant advancement in public safety and security measures and marks a pivotal step toward ensuring comprehensive coverage and increased security across key areas.
From 32 to 100 CCTV cameras
According to the RVIPF, seventy CCTV cameras were installed in thirty-two strategic locations around Tortola in 2023.
This year, the upgrades will see the replacement of existing cameras with advanced models and the addition of cameras in previously uncovered areas.
“The team anticipates that, by the end of 2024, over 100 cameras will be operational across Tortola, covering new streets and alleyways to provide more thorough surveillance,” the press release said.
Additional funding requested & expansion to VG
As 2025 approaches, a request has been made for additional funding to extend coverage.
The prospective expansion will create an opportunity to address remaining gaps while strengthening Tortola’s security infrastructure.
Additionally, plans are underway to implement this security feature on Virgin Gorda increasing the number of CCTV locations from five to ten with over twenty cameras for enhanced security and coverage.
“These efforts underscore a strong commitment to the safety and well-being of residents on both Tortola and Virgin Gorda. An expanded and upgraded CCTV surveillance network will empower law enforcement agencies to monitor and respond to incidents more effectively, fostering a safer environment for all,” the press release added.
This in-house project is being led by Systems Manager Sergeant Claude Rymer and his team at the RVIPF Communications Unit.

We need cameras on the roads and intersections because the criminals are not flying to get away. Be mindful this is a tourist destination where people want to get away from privacy invasion.
