Cavaliers & Vikings make winning starts
Game one action saw Wolues win the toss and decide to bat first against Vikings, however, their plan to try and put some score board pressure on the winners of last year’s tournament didn’t work out as they were bowled out for just 107 in 18 overs.
Jacques Roux top scored with 42 and he had support from Gareth Schneeqs who added 28.
Bowling for Vikings, Anand Singh took four wickets for 15 runs in three overs while Bashir Hidar bagged three wickets for 24 runs in four overs. Ray Bob also picked up two wickets for 14 runs in his four overs.
When Vikings came to the wicket to chase the Wolues total of 107, the Wolues were unable to make any kind of breakthrough as Vishal Munesar struck 55 and kevin Walker 48 to make the win a mere formality.
Dramatic display by Cavaliers & Royal Knights
In the second encounter of the day, Cavaliers and Royal Knights gave fans a dramatic display. Cavaliers batted first and posted 246 for eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Hasan Mohammed made 55; Dorian Auguiste 45; Danpaul Chrisnanand 40 and Kewsi Sinclair an unbeaten 38, to set a winning total for Cavaliers.
The Royal Knights were frustrated by the many dropped catches which if taken could have restricted the Cavalier’s total to below the 200 mark.
Julian Sinclair was the pick of the bowlers for the Royal Knights, with his four wickets for only 20 runs from just two overs. Shane Sinclair also picked up two wickets for 30 runs from three overs.
The Knights faced an uphill task in their run chase. The 246 posted by Cavaliers seemed way out of reach in the opening overs as a few Royal Knights batsmen were sent back to the Nagico tents in quick succession. However, Richard Fredericks was determined to reach the 247 for victory, posting 78 runs from only 39 balls. Ryan Mangal’s 47 from 33 balls and Shane Sinclair’ 34 from only 15 balls threatened to take the game away from Cavaliers.
But the fall of wickets, largely due to poor shot selection, undermined the recovery effort by Royal Knights. Vishal Bharat’s three wickets for 36 runs from three overs and Dhanpaul two wickets for 18 runs from two overs orchestrated Cavaliers' 35 run victory over the Royal Knights.
