Cavaliers & Police record wins on opening day of BVICA T20 Tournament
Cavaliers CC and Police CC emerged victorious in their respective T20 matches.
Cavaliers CC vs Falcons
In the afternoon clash, Cavaliers CC secured a dominant 57-run victory against the Falcons.
After being sent to bat by the Falcons, the Cavaliers overcame early setbacks to post a formidable total of 211/6. Star batsmen Gavin Hitnarine (57 off 29) and Aaron Baker (65 off 37) anchored the innings with a stunning 120-run partnership, setting up the platform for the lower order to capitalise in the final overs.
The Falcons started strong in response, with Joel Williams (46 off 23) and Damron Prince (42 off 28) building early momentum. However, a game-changing spell from Man of the Match Dhanpaul Chrisnanand (4/33) dismantled their chase, restricting them to 154 all out in 15.1 overs.
Reflecting on the win, the Cavaliers stated, “After losing the toss and being sent to bat, it was unfortunate when we lost two early wickets. However, the partnership between Gavin Hitnarine and Aaron Baker set the team in a good position for the remaining batsmen to capitalise on the remaining overs.”
Falcons’ Imran Smith remarked, “I think we played well despite the fact that we lost. The application to the game was good, and we had the team in a good position to restrict them. We set our batting well, but we just did not follow through. For future games, we will look at commitment and application more.”
Morris’ century inspires Police to win over Vikings
Earlier in the day, Police CC edged out the Vikings CC in a close encounter, winning by 13 runs. Police CC posted 185/4, driven by an electrifying century from Casnell Morris (105 off 62).
Man of the Match Morris smashed 10 fours and 8 sixes, leading his side to a competitive total.
In response, the Vikings fell short at 172/8, despite a valiant effort from Deco Khemraj (31 off 19) and Vaden Walker (17 off 12). Police CC bowlers Collis Fraser and Jamal Mickle stood out with two wickets each, delivering tight spells under pressure.
Play continues on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the same venue.
Grenada and Renegade clash from 9:30 AM and Royal Knights and Vincy battle it out from 1:30 PM.
