Carvin Malone in as new VIP President!
Though he still competed against Ms Joann R. Romney, daughter of the late Chief Minister Cyril Romney, for the position, Malone received more votes than she did hence was the victor in that race. Malone received 50 votes to Romney's 25.
It is understood that Willock withdrew from the race to throw his weight behind Romney.
Speaking with this news site on May 22, 2014, Malone had emphasized that a vote for him was a vote for experience, commitment, proven leadership and party unity.
“As President of the VIP I would champion the aims and principles of the VIP constitution and its bylaws and fully engage and utilize all principle organs of the VIP including the district and territorial committees, the youth, senior and women arms, the national advisory panels on economic pillars, on education, infrastructure, health etc.,” he said.
He stated during the interview with this news site that the party must continue to create the situation where the voice of each of the constituents in each of the nine districts could have a platform through which their voices could be heard.
“As President the task is to be a strong supportive advocate for the party but also to assist the VIP Congress, the Executive body and its full membership,” he said during the interview.
Earlier this evening, Third District Representative Hon Julian Fraser RA secured the Chairmanship of the VIP, defeating his closest competitor First District Representative Hon Andrew A. Fahie.
