Carnel D. Clyne resigns as VIF&FC Chairman
His resignation was handed in today, June 11, 2020, via email, according to Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) in a statement.
Dr Wheatley said not too long ago he received an email from Mr Clyne indicating his wish to resign from his post.
“After reading his reason I have reluctantly decided to accept his resignation,” Dr Wheatley said, adding that Mr Clyne cited unforeseen personal responsibilities that would impact his performance and would not allow him to give the VIF&FC the attention it requires and deserves.
1st Festival report in 3 years
Thanking Mr Clyne for his service, Dr Wheatley said with Mr Clyne at the helm, the VIF&FC provided a financial report for Festival for the first time in 3 years.
Further, he said outstanding entertainment acts, both local and international, were achieved with Mr Clyne as Chairman and some of the largest crowds were seen at festival events.
He said, under Mr Clyne, who was appointed Chairman in March 2019, the festival saw new cultural activities added to the celebration.
Additionally, Dr Wheatley said the VIF&FC has cleared all outstanding bills from as far back as 2017, adding that "there is no bill hanging over our head for the first time in years."
According to Dr Wheatley, Mr Clyne was not a perfect man but a man of action and disliked when things moved slowly and sometimes may have rushed ahead in some instances without involving everyone “but his heart was in the right place.”
Vice-Chairman Mr Khalid A. Frett will act as Chairman until a new appointment is made.

It look like festival have any money to take? , @$@h***
Now. an approx two-week celebration has emerged with the 1st Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August being official holidays. The current celebration has shifted from an emancipation and cultural event to now mostly an entertainment and commercial event; it is a costly two week respite from residents life travails. Government, ie, taxpayers, is expected to underwrite a significant portion of the cost, incurring cost overrun in most years. Is there something rotten in the state of Denmark?
Moreover, in recent years, it seems as if we have been playing musical chairs with the top leadership of the VIFFC. Any organization that undergoes constant changes of leadership is a clear indication that there are structural challenges with the organization, ie, the organization may not be able to run effectively as currently structured. Thus, an ad hoc committee needs to commissioned to look at a)cultural relevance and purpose of festival, b) organizational structure, c)duration, d)type of celebration, e)financing (public v. private)......etc.
Other regional countries, eg, Antigua, have cancelled their 2020 Emancipation celebrations. What is the status of the VI’s?
