ST. CROIX, USVI — This morning, an Air Flamingo cargo flight made a critical emergency landing at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix after experiencing a landing gear malfunction, the V.I. Port Authority has announced.

The incident, involving a Short 360 aircraft coming from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in Puerto Rico, prompted an immediate response from emergency crews.

VIPA confirmed that the aircraft, Flight WAF2203, managed to glide to a halt on the runway despite the failed deployment of its landing gear. VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe reported that the pilot and one crew member on board were unharmed, and there were no passengers on the flight.

Following the landing, which occurred at approximately 8:55 a.m., the runway was closed to allow for emergency operations and the removal of the aircraft. Mr. Dowe stated that the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and that VIPA is coordinating with towing services to clear the runway.

Travelers can expect some delays for both incoming and outgoing flights due to the runway closure. VIPA has issued an apology for any inconvenience caused and is making efforts to reopen the runway as swiftly and safely as possible.
