ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The ‘two cars for a dollar raffle- part 2’, which was slated to be drawn on New Year’s Eve, has now been extended, with twelve more prizes added.

The historical two-car raffle started some six weeks ago, and according to Floyd ‘Heritage’ Burnett, Owner and Manager of Tola Radio VI, despite the over 30,000 who currently call the territory home, less than 4,000 persons have participated.

“We fell a bit short for the support needed to make everything work, we presently have less than four thousand people signed up,” he said in an interview with Virgin Islands News Online on Monday January 2, 2017.

Churches & district leaders urged to come on board

He also used the opportunity to urge greater community partnership, as he pointed out, some proceeds will be going towards the Family Support Network (FSN).

“We need the community to take part on a greater level than that. I’m calling on all the churches, and all charitable organisations and district leaders, do their part, a thousand raffle books an organisation, win one for your congregation or for a needy person in your congregation, or district.”

“I refuse to walk into Family Support Network with no less than a five figure cheque,” he added.

Burnett, in addition, informed that all prizes are funded out of pocket and not donated or discounted.

There were already 12 prizes won by members of the public in the game which is aimed at giving more persons a chance to win. These prizes included cash, gas, grocery, television, phones, watches, I-pads, trips, Camcorders, bicycles, spa treatments and power tools.

Ticket locations

There are several locations to purchase tickets, including Mellow Moods, Dennis Gas Station on Tortola, Trellis Bay on Beef Island, Bucks Food Market in Virgin Gorda, Big Bamboo in Anegada, Rudy’s in Jost Van Dyke and Restaurant 39 in St Thomas US Virgin Islands.

Each car is valued at $17,500 and a minimum of 10 tickets have to be purchased to enter at $ 1 per ticket. There is also a ticket hotline -541-3606 for interested persons who may want to place orders.

The vehicles to be won will receive one year of insurance from Caribbean Insurers Limited and if someone in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) wins he or she would receive free shipping to that territory.

The game is in partnership with Burke's Garage and the Association to Preserve Virgin Islands Heritage. Some of the sponsors are Virgin Islands News Online, Autland Heavy Equipment Ltd, Caribbean Insurers Limited, Caribbean Cellars, ZROD FM and BVI News Online.

Meanwhile, a new date for the raffle drawing is yet to be announced.

Ras, a word of advice, while the cause is worthy, your biggest problem has been timing.

    1. You just competed with about three different raffles. This year, instead of holding the raffle at the same time as everyone else, find a time that is not so competitive. If you are supporting FSN's cause, have your raffle draw date around the same time as Domestic Violence Awareness Month or something and start selling your tickets in summer. If you change the cause, then link your raffle draw day to a meaningful community date other than Christmas - prevention of child abuse, cancer awareness, diabetes prevention etc. There are many other dates!

    2. Re-analyse your target market. Don't judge the book by its cover. The average person cannot afford to take part in three raffles like that all leading up to Christmas. Plus people are still trying to recover from their holiday spending, and are still broke! You want to rake in a large amount to give a five figure donation, but I am sure FSN is grateful for whatever amount is given, and the awareness raised on their behalf.

    Jus my 2 cents.

This man see how many cars have been raffling for 2016 and instead of just doing one, he is doing to for $1.00 and really think he can cover the cost of promotion, prizes and the cars? NEVER! Further, people do not want a car, they want an SUV.

Don't have ticket you don't have a chance and you got to be in it to win it.A car is a car some people don't even have and who walking talking. Just support the worthy cause and end up getting 2 cars.People may want SUV but if you don't have neither the other and just BVI 2 just go for it.It won't hurt your pockets

Me Son use the Money and invest in a good and quality sound System and a Generator so Bands and organisations can use at a reasonable cost.. Those we have now waaay to expensive.. Do something for the Art of music... Leave those failing statutory bodies for government and large companies who could afford it. ..Keep your name hard work and Legacy' alive. During Festival celebrations we can hardly find 3-4 good generators.. Call it. "Tola Radio sound system and Generator" Give a little make a little.

Just extend the time to February 14th - 2 cars for the price of 1 for 2 lovers, a couple,a family, etc. By then most would have recuperate from the festive blues and be able to participate. If not then perhaps for the Easter or whitsuntide to incorporate more sales more contribution towards this worthwhile csuse. I pray some one who is really in need of such will win.
