BVIPA MD allegedly led Premier to drug conspiracy- US Affidavits
The affidavit alleges that beginning on or about October 16, 2021, a confidential source (CS) with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had meetings with a group of “self-proclaimed Lebanese Hezbollah operatives... who stated that they had business ties to South Florida and the Middle East."
Those meetings allegedly took place on Tortola and it was the group who helped foster a connection to the BVI Government officials allegedly through the Premier’s security head and the BVIPA MD, Mrs Maynard.
Tortola as drug storage point
The mission of the meetings was that the CS had asked the group to help facilitate the use of Tortola as a temporary storage port for cocaine transported from Colombia via sea destined for the United States.
The plan would also have included the laundering of the drug proceeds and monies for officials.
According to the affidavit, the group reportedly agreed to introduce the source to senior members of the VI government who could offer protection and allow for the request, for a price.
Alleged connections included the head of Fahie's security staff and Mrs Oleanvine Pickering-Maynard, according to the affidavit seen by Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).
The document detailed that in describing Premier Fahie, Maynard added, “I know the man, if he sees an opportunity, he will take it… I know the type of person he is, so I know he will take the opportunity.”
Maynard reportedly described herself as an upfront kind of person who would say exactly when she is interested and then further went on to describe the Premier.
“You see with my Premier, he’s a little crook sometimes... he’s not always straight,” Maynard said allegedly.
Meetings reportedly documented
The document detailed that both Mrs Maynard and her son ironed out how the operation would work and the roles that they and Hon Fahie would play ahead of an April 7, 2022, meeting on Tortola where the source allegedly met the Maynards, then a group meeting with the Premier.
The Affidavits said that many of the meetings were documented through audio, video recordings or both. Some of the conversations with parties were also done via WhatsApp.
