BVIPA announces up-coming tender for Runway Rehabilitation @ VG airport

VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- The British Virgin Islands Airports Authority (the Authority), a statutory body of the Government of the Virgin Islands with oversight of the airports within the [British] Virgin Islands, announces the up-coming tender for the rehabilitation of the existing sand and gravel runway at the Virgin Gorda airport.

The project will undertake improvements to enhance the safety and capabilities of the airport operations. The Authority will be seeking construction tenders for the project that will be a re-tender of one previously issued in August 2020. Tender packages will be available from November 4, 2020, by contacting Ms Luce Hodge-Smith, Deputy Managing Director/Admin by email at lhodgesmith@bviaa.com. The Tender will be open for bidding for approximately 5-weeks. Further details will be provided within the Tender.

The rehabilitation will be scheduled to take place in early 2021 during an airport closure with substantial completion in May 2020. Runway grooving and final painting would occur thereafter.

Among the major elements of the project will be (quantities are approximate):

- Common Excavation: 8,000 m3

- Runway Grooving: 15,000 m2

- Supply and Place Granular Material: 6,500 m3

- Pavement Line Markings - Supply and Place Hot Mix Asphalt: 5,000 tonnes

A Bid Bond or Certified Cheque in the amount equal to 5% of the Tender Price, and a Consent of Surety or Agreement to Bond for the following will be required to accompany each Tender:

▪ Performance Bond in the amount of 100% of the proposed contract value

▪ Labour and Materials Bond in the amount of 100% of the proposed contract value

Tenders meeting the mandatory tender qualification requirements will be evaluated based on quality and pricing.

Quality evaluation will consider:

- Experience in similar projects

- Proposed equipment and other resources

- Experience of project team

- Use of local labour, sub-contractors and resources

- Work programme and schedule

- Understanding of the project

Participation by and with local sub-contractors is strongly encouraged. Bidders will be able visit the site by contacting Ms Luce Hodge-Smith (BVIAA) at lhodgesmith@bviaa.com no later than November 17, 2020, at 2:00 pm.
