ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), under which the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital falls, has received Det Norske Veritas (DNV) re-accreditation.

This international accreditation, done by a Norwegian agency, was initially achieved in 2022, along with ISO 9001 Certification, after an intensive process of refining policies, upgrading infrastructure, and investing in staff development.

The DNV reassessment was completed from March 4 to 7, 2025, a statement on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, to Virgin Islands News Online, from BVIHSA said. It reaffirms the authority’s commitment to world-class healthcare standards.

DNV accreditation significant

“The 2025 reassessment was a crucial milestone in maintaining this accreditation, and preliminary reports indicate an impressive performance, underscoring our dedication to patient safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement,” the statement added.

Maintaining DNV accreditation is significant for the institution and the Virgin Islands community.

“It enhances patient safety, improves efficiency, attracts top medical professionals, boosts public confidence, and increases access to international insurance coverage, allowing for seamless direct billing with global insurers.”

The statement related that the BVIHSA remains steadfast in its mission to provide safe, high-quality, and efficient healthcare to the territory while ensuring it continues to meet and exceed international healthcare standards.
