BVIHSA on campaign to improve image & service
In an exclusive interview with this news site, Mrs Carty-Baptiste said “I had some wonderful meetings last week with the staff, it’s called the CEO Live.”, she added that she spoke with them about the expectation of excellence and what it meant to the organisation. “…what you say, what you do and how you act is a representation of all of us collectively.”
“Going forward,” she added, “we have to do better… there’s an expectation for the community and a new expectation for ourselves as professionals.” She disclosed that measures to test the progress of the strategy will be implemented into the competency check lists of staff across the BVIHSA. The CEO felt that as the community starts to see this, then the feedback will come, along with some sense of reassurance. “…my biggest message to everybody is accountability,” the CEO said.
Commenting that the upcoming implementation of the National Health Insurance scheme would provide “guaranteed payment” for patients utilising particular services of the BVIHSA, she added “we have to develop a collection strategy internally to deal with all those back debts”.
Since the last community meeting held in East End/Long Look, Requests for Proposals (RFPs) have been compiled for persons indebted to the organisation; approximately three (3) letters of interest have since been received. Persons have also been identified in-house for training to coordinate with debt collectors while a legal framework is being developed to control the situation as well. The CEO described the list of persons owing the organisation as “lengthy”.
During the meeting held last month at the East End/Long Look Community Centre, the BVIHSA announced that it was reportedly owed some $28M in outstanding account payments. Mrs Carty-Baptiste had said at the time that there was currently an in-house collector in place. She further, explained that this number would be boosted with the addition of one other staff in the interim in hopes that the Authority could be more aggressive in retrieving the outstanding amounts.
The CEO of the BVIHSA reiterated that she was delighted and honoured to serve in her capacity as head of the organisation noting that it has great potential but needs to add focus to addressing the needs of the community and establishing a very world class healthcare system.

The problem with the physicians can only be solved by going to the head of the fountain and replacing the root cause of the problem. The Chief of Staff.
The Chairman and Minister continue to skirt these two true problems. Their times to account will come. For now we need the hospital rid of these two so that the improvements can begin.
My humble opinion; let us as a community try our very best to rid us of that seemingly engraved pessimistic out-look of self and others. Let us practice to say positive things and if we are not able to, then, let us keep silent. I am personally guided by this quote “Small minds discuss people, average minds discuss events and great minds discuss ideas.” I am confident that most of us have the innate potential to do and become great, but a conscious decision must be taken that would allow us to focus more on the positive energies of life in order to ignite the fires of dormant greatness. We can do it together if we only try.
