BVIFA announces 2 new full-time appointments

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Football in the Virgin Islands received a major boost with the appointment of a new full-time Head Coach and full-time Women’s Director by the BVI Football Association (BVIFA).

During a press conference on Friday, March 7, 2025, the BVIFA announced the appointment of Mr David Pérez as National Head Coach and Mr Fitzgerald Carter as Women’s Development Director.

President of the BVIFA Mr Avanell Morton said, “We are turning in the right direction of making sure that football is in the right place, the right time in this country.”

He added that football being something big worldwide, it is now time to make the right investments in developing the sport in the Territory.

“Our intention was to get the best and suitable candidates in the BVI to lead our program,” Mr Morton said adding with the new appointments, “We think we are in the right place, right time and we are looking for a better future for our kids and girls, boys in the community”.

Meanwhile, Technical Director Mr Paul Decle, from Trinidad who was appointed in late 2024, said one of the association’s main goals is to bring back the respect and quality of the sport in the VI, by having all areas of football active at the highest levels.

“One of the key parts of this is all being aligned with the same values systems and what we want to see in BVI football so we look forward to being part of that process going forward,” he stated.

New appointees eager to assist VI football

The two new appointees expressed being eager to help elevate the sport of football in the VI.

Mr Pérez who is from Madrid, Spain has extensive experience with teams in his home country as well as countries such as China and Saudi Arabia. He last managed the Belize National Team and Verdes FC.

He said he was pleased to be in the VI to “help with the development of football” here.

Mr Carter who is from Barbados was the interim Head of Coaching Education for the Barbados Football Association (BFA), and head coach of Barbados' Under-20 Men's National Football Team, before taking on this new assignment. He also has experience working with female footballers.

In his capacity as Women’s Development Director, he said he would do his “utmost best to raise participation and get the female game to another level”.

    Is there a local to do it or want to do it?? The locals here aren’t as experienced. Let someone who is come get it off the ground and the local theirselves can learn so the next time they can step up..

    how come no one saying what the President, Clarky, a say about lack of women's football being down to the girls reaching a certain age and not wanting to play anymore ? their culture wrong and implying they have other more important things doing
